Purity is something that is obtain through the work of the Holy Spirit. It is not something that you quit, you earn, you deserve. It is a clear fact stated by Jesus -- the pure in heart.
The word is found a number of times in the Bible. The Levites were purified all at one time: Ezr 6:20 For the priests and the Levites were purified together, all of them were pure, and killed the passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves. This was done in a ceremonial sense. But Jesus is talking about something that happens in the hearts of sinners. Don't misunderstand me, both were important becuase they effected relationships with 2Ti 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Note the promise he makes to those who have a pure heart-- they shall see God. Job spoke of his redeemer and note what he said: Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: We shall see him in all his beauty and glory if we have been made pure. This great act is done through and by our Lord Jesus Christ and his work at Calvary. Take heart my brothers and sisters today all that Jesus said will come to pass. Praise his name.
