Series: The Unsearchable Riches of Christ
Sermon # 2
Subject: " The Reality of Christ’s Riches"
Ephesians 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
Intro: Last Sunday we saw that it is a necessity for one to be humble before he can ever see and experience some of the great riches that we have in Christ our Lord. Paul demonstrated that be declaring in our text verse from last week that he was "less than the least of all saints".
1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all [of you] be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
This morning I want to show that Christ is Rich...and in what he is rich in are at least some things that he is rich in...
I... " THAT CHRIST IS RICH IN GOODNESS:
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
1st. The goodness of GOD can be seen: Psalm 27:13 [I had fainted], unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
2nd. The goodness of GOD is something that you can taste: Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that] trusteth in him.
3rd. The goodness of God is seen in that all generations experience it: Psalm 100:5 For the LORD [is] good; his mercy [is] everlasting; and his truth [endureth] to all generations.
II... THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS RICH IN WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE:
Colossians 2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Once again we can see the unsearchable riches of Christ in this verse, it is hid in him. It is bound up in him, it is stored in him. All these wonderful treasures of wisdom and knowledge can be tasted by the people of GOD...
Matthew 11:25-26 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Then he gives this command to come to him:
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.
It is hid from all whom the Father does not want to reveal and it is hid from whom the Son does not want to reveal. Oh that you and I who are saved would be humble enough to fall at the feet of Jesus like Mary did, hear what the LORD said ...
Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Once again Jesus told his disciples: John 4:32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
III... "THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS RICH IN GLORY"
Paul when writing tot he Lord’s people in the book of Ephesians spoke of this..
Ephesians 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Once again the fact that our eyes must be open declares that it is hid, that it is indeed unsearchable to the natural mind. For he says in another verse these words...
Ephesians 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
Note that it must be granted, that is it must be given to us... and that we must look for it...it is the basis of our strength as a child of GOD... Christ is indeed rich in glory...
1st...Manifested his glory at the marriage of Canna of Galilee: John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
2nd... The source of our supply from the LORD his glory: Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
IV... " THAT CHRIST IS RICH IN GRACE AND TRUTH..
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1ST. His grace is rich in love for it is his love that drove him to calvary: John 13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2nd. His grace is rich in redemption and forgiveness for he hath plenty for his people..
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Psalm 130:7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD [there is] mercy, and with him [is] plenteous redemption.
3rd. His grace is rich in protection: Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
If you are lost this morning I pray that GOD will enable you to draw from the well that will never run dry, drink from the fountain that springs up into everlasting life, find peace that passes all understanding, walk in the light that never grows dem, stand on the foundation that will never sink...
If you are saved this morning I trust that you will evermore search the unsearchable riches of the LORD JESUS CHRIST... love him, serve him, trust him, look to him, hope in him, give to him....
