Series: The Unsearchable Riches of Christ

Sermon # 4

Ephesians 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

Subject:

Text: Revelation 1:5-6

In these messages that we have been preaching I have showed some important things relative to the series:

That one must be made humble before the riches of Christ will be revealed:

The Second message we seen the reality of the riches of Christ..

The Fullness of the riches of Christ..

This chapter represents a great deal with reference to the Riches of Christ and to the riches of the benefits he renders to his people. John the last of the Apostles of Christ was a prisoner for Chirst by the Roman government.

His encounter with Christ is one that has left great mysteries to the minds of men down through the ages of trying to rightly interpret this great book. It is not my intention to get into to eschatology, but rather show the riches of our LORD in this chapter and in the lives of the people of GOD..

I... "THE GREAT RICHES OF THE FAITHFULNESS OF CHRIST" VS 5

The word "faithful" is interesting word in the greek, it means a person or persons who show themselves faithful in the transaction of business, the execution of

commands, or the discharge of official duties...

1st. Christ faithful at a very early age:

Luke 2:42-52

The childhood of Christ even though for the most is hid, but this particular event is not hid so that we could see early on his faithfulness to the his Father

2nd. The Riches of Christ faithfulness is seen in his faithful declaration of who he was and what he came to do.

A. We see it in his open promise: Matt 5:17-18

B. We see it in his mission: Matt 9:12-13

C. We see it in his strange but profound language: Matt 10: 34-36

D. We see it in his teaching his disciples: Luke 9:51-56

E. We see it in his confirmation that he had not come of himself: John 7: 28-29

II... " THE GREAT RICHES OF CHRIST IS SEEN IN HIS GRAND AND GLORIOUS RESURRECTION: VS 5 " THE FIRST BEGOTTEN FROM THE DEAD"..

Here in lay the great hope of the believer, that is if Christ raise from the dead then there is reason to have great hope for all that he had taught them: It was not till he rose from the dead that they would began to understand all things that he had spoken to them.

This without question is to a dying Old disciple of Christ an astounding revelation, this statement and this fact removes all fear of the unknown to John, it settles his mind concerning the things of Christ and what he had taught him prior to his death and ascension.

The word "begotten is used 24 times in the bible" and of the 24 times it is used with reference to Christ:

John 1: 14 " The only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth"

John 1: 18 " The only begotten one that hath seen the Father"

John 3: 16 " He was the only begotten son given to save us"

Hebrews 5:5 " Declare so by the father"

Hebrews 5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

As the only begotten from the dead he is the "prince of the kings of the earth" which has to do with his rulership over the earth... In the 2nd Psalm Kings of this earth are warned...Psalm 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish [from] the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed [are] all they that put their trust in him.

III... " THE ETERNAL RICHES OF CHRIST IS SEEN IN WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR HIS PEOPLE: VS 5-6

1st. The great love he has for his people: John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

A. It is a faithful love: John 13-1 " having loved his own which were in the world he loved them unto the end..

B. It is a unselfish love: Luke 22:42 " not my will but thine be done"

C. It is a constraining love: 2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

D. It is an inseparable love: Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

2nd. The great work he did for us: "washed us for our sins"

a. It is a clean washing: 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

b. It is judicial cleansing: Acts 13:38-39 Be it known unto you therefore, men [and] brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

C. It is needful cleansing: Luke 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

3rd. The great privilege of his riches bestowed upon us: "made us kings and priests"

This speaks of two things:

1. Privilege...

2. Position..

Often this has been understood that we would have some rule over a physical world in the future but a close study of this shows exactly what is meant by the LORD..

We are a kingdom of priest...Peter put it better than I can: 1 Peter 2:9 But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

This privilege and position has to do with us ruling over our own nature; we can through Christ do all things... It really deals with our serving the LORD in this world.. Hebrews 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

We have power of the flesh, the world and the devil... the reason being because we have been made kings and priest..

1 John 4:3-4 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
