Romans 12:1-2

1)  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2)  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

DEVOTION: BY PASTOR JACK DUPLECHAIN

It is so hard in our day and time not to be worldly; we are bombarded with every kind of pleasurable thing you can think of. The difficulty is not wanting to let go of some of the things that would hinder our spiritual life. No I am not saying that I always do, I do something like most Christians.  Each Christian no doubt, will form an opinion as to what worldliness is and what it is not. That is not my point this morning. It is my desire in this devotion to look at the verse realistically. 1. It is a request from Paul.  “I beseech” -- it can mean to call to one's side, and it often is used; and, I think it is in this passage -- to encourage one. We all need to be encouraged to the task of letting the world go. 2. It is duty. Make a presentation to the LORD of holiness. This is not human perfection, this is not outward holiness, this appeal, is to live our life so as to please the LORD we serve. Paul said: Ro 7:18  "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not."  No matter how you dress it up; no matter how good it looks; no matter what you quit; no matter what you perform; it will forever remain no good. I know he says body here, but he means to do this from the heart and it will affect our bodies. 3. Do not act like the world. Here it is clear -- do not imitate the world. Churches are answerable to the LORD just like individuals are.  Making a worship service to attract the world, by dress, by music, and by other things than preaching, is conforming to the world; and, this should not be. Young people dressing, acting, putting on what others put on, so to be accepted -- is of the world, and it will pass away. See I John 2-15-17. Then there is a last thing: (4.) How not to act like the world -- by transforming your minds. This is the word of GOD changing what we think, and that changes what we say. We must control our tongues Christian friends --  it is not right to act like the world with our speech. This is the only way, that, we will perform the will of GOD in our lives. Our prayer today is, LORD HELP US TO CONFORM OUR EVERYTHING TODAY TO YOUR WILL AND EVERY THOUGHT, EVERY WORD, EVERY DEED TO YOUR GLORY AND HONOR. AMEN
