Psalms 3:1-8

<A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.>

(1) LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many [are] they that rise up against me. (2) Many [there be] which say of my soul, [There is] no help for him in God. Selah. (3) But thou, O LORD, [art] a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. (4) I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. (5) I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. (6) I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set [themselves] against me round about. (7) Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies [upon] the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. (8) Salvation [belongeth] unto the LORD: thy blessing [is] upon thy people. Selah.

DEVOTION: BY PASTOR JACK DUPLECHAIN

Title: The urgency of Praying

We are living in such a terrible time spiritually in this country. Enemies of Christ and His people are continuing to wage war against Christ and His people. I received an email last week informing us of a Dutch Catholic bishop who was advocating changing the name of God to Allah.

I believe in freedom of Religion in America, but I do not believe in the attacks on our LORD at the expenses of pleasing men and their ideas of God. The LORD's name is holy and reverend, the Psalmist says; and, it must remain unchanged.

This is why we need to pray and pray often. In this Psalm there is a call to pray. Vs 1-3: in this devotion let me point out from these verses a number of things. (1.) The essential element in praying: The Lordship of Christ. (2.) The essential need in this prayer: Trouble. (3.) The attacks in this prayer: this is from the enemies of David. (4.)  The awesome declaration in this prayer - vs 4: there is the cry of the prayer. Jerimiah 33:3 "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.". Vs 7-8: the calmness in prayer - note in the Psalm, he laid down and slept. Such tranquilty when we touch the ear of the LORD in our prayers. The Lord sustained him.  His fear is gone, and his prayer is reinforced. May the GOD of the BIBLE -- JESUS CHRIST, guide you through this day.  Amen.
