Coming Home. I have been thinking of this text for some time now. I plan a sermon on it real soon. This story has been told many times and in many sermons. Whatever you think of it, the one thing that I have always seen in it, the reality of someone who has left and now they are coming back. The thought that comes to me is when will you come home? This is a serious thought. Many Christians are away and they are attending church. They read their bibles, they sing, they teach; but, are they really close to the LORD. This only can be answered by you who read this. Coming home means several things: (1.) It means that you realize you have left. Self is our enemy and we all know this, and we should know it. Jesus said unless you deny yourself you cannot be my disciple. Many of you who read this perhaps have not realized that you are away, but by his grace after reading this you have begun the first step back. (2.) It means that you realize where you are. He was in the hog pen; he was hungry, and he was tired of the life he had led. Apply this spiritually to your life. Are you tired of the wrong path, the wrong crowds, the wrong places that you are traveling? My friends -- look inside yourself, look up to Christ, and come home. (3.) It means that you have made up your mind to come home by the help and the grace of the LORD. (4.) It means that you are ready to repent and confess to the LORD. How we need this in all our lives, in our churches, in our homes. In conclusion, don’t wait; if you are reading this -- please turn to Christ, and turn toward home. That is my prayer. Amen.
