Luke 14:26

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Following Christ

While this text is fresh on my mind,  I would like to suggest a few things for our day in Christ.  I preached this text tonight in our evening service and had great liberty in doing so.  Christ is laying the foundation for those who dare to be true Disciples of Christ.  1.) We see whom it is that we follow; it is Christ.  If any man come to me. . . We come to Him to be saved; likewise we come to Him for discipleship.  In fact, we come to Christ for everything in life.  2.) We see the sacrifice he states.  Christ is not saying we hate our loved ones to the extent of a murderous intent in our hearts, for He said if we hate anyone, we are murderers in our heart.  He is saying that nothing, or no one is to stand in our way of serving the LORD.  What are you holding on to today that keeps you from really following Christ?  3.) We see the conclusion He makes . . . cannot be my disciple.  You can be saved and not be a full servant of Christ due to things, loved ones, jobs, and money etc.  It is time that we stand up and follow Him regardless of what it costs us.  It is no question that following Christ is the right thing to do, it is the best thing to do, it is the lasting thing to do, it is the loving thing to do.  Just think of all He has done for us.  What grace, what love, what a death! He died to save us from our sins, and guaranteed that we will live with Him in eternity. We need to surrender our all to Him now and the rest of our life.  Have you done this?
