John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Condemnation rides heavy on every sinner who has not come to the light that he might be justified. The light of our text verses are clear as to who it is, it is Jesus Christ. He will light the darkness of the human heart; he will light the mind with knowledge of who he is, and what he can do for the sinner. (1.) Light is come. This is none other than God coming into the world. 1Jo 1:5 The later part of the verse says that God is light in him is no darkness at all. He has come in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the great mystery of godliness. (2.) His reception is clear. Men love darkness rather than light. It is without question the nature of every sinner to love his own way more than the Lord’s way. They love it because it is pleasurable, it is self-satisfying, it is deceptive even thought they do not realize it. Sinners love darkness because their deeds are evil. All that they do enhances their darkness, and their desires. It is clear that Jesus is speaking right to the heart, they will not come to him because they wish not their deeds to be exposed. (3.) The exception made clear. A saved person comes to the light, in order to manifest that the Lord has worked a work in them. Look at that, he wishes to please him who hath called him out of darkness into his marvelous light. This day can be a day of darkness for you, or it can be a day of light. Christian should cherish the privilege of walking in the light, and bathing in its wonderful rays of hope, and security spiritually. It will shine on us to make us look like the master, which is the goal of God for his people that we may look like Christ. It is my prayer for you who read this including myself that we walk today in the light of his word. Amen
