Miracles or Obedience:

John 2-1 ¶ And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

One the problems that Jesus faced when he came was the miracle-seeking crowd, show us a sign, if thou be the Son of God. Many followed him when they saw the miracles, which he done, is that the proper reason to follow Christ, I think not. Jesus went to this wedding feast not just to perform a miracles, he was invited to this occasion. While there a need arose, they had no wine. This may come as a shock to some, wine was not a forbidden beverage, this is seen in the fact that the savior provides wine for this wedding. There are a number of things that we need to see in this devotion. (1.) What Mary said verse 6 “whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. The most rewarding thing that we can do is to follow what Christ saith. My friends it is in the Bible look it up. Obedience is greater than some miracle that might be performed. If you take way the show, the so-called benefits of the miracle-working crowd, then you will not have a crowd at all. (2.) What Jesus said in verse 7 fill the water pots”. This commandment was not given because he wanted to just turn the water into wine, but to teach these followers a lesson they needed to learn. It may have seemed insignificant but it was not. It was a test of obedience, and they past. They did what they were told. If we ever to expect to hear from the LORD we must be ready to read his word, and then do what he saith unto us in his word. (3.) The main purpose of the miracle and yea even all miracles is found in verse 11 “ manifested his glory”. The glory of the LORD JESUS CHRIST is of greater importance any day than the so-called miracles of our day. His glory is our main focuses not ours.  As we began another week may the God of grace cause his face to shine on us, and make to shine for him.
