Receiving Christ

Jack Duplechain

John 1-12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

One of the greatest things that could happen to anyone is for them to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. Unfortunately man has been duped into believing that receiving Christ is a mere walking a church isle and accepted Christ by mere human will. They believe that somehow the Lord has given them a will to choose Christ. The bible is the final authority on this subject. There is no question; the need to receive Christ is great. It is the greatest thing needed by sinners. These verses clearly set forth the reality of how this occurs. (1.) It happens by the power of the Lord. Note the verse says, “Gave he power to become the sons of God”. Once this occurs then the desire and the will to come to Christ has been granted by the Lord. (2.) It is not an act of being born into certain genetic traits, but it is by God’s will. Notice he ways also that (3.) It is not of blood; you cannot inherit it. I really do not know of anyone who thinks they can inherit it except maybe some in Christ day, we be Abraham’s seed. John the Baptist set that record strait when he said think not to say within yourselves we have Abraham for a father, God can raise up seed from the rocks if he wants to, read it in Matt chapter 3. (4.) It is not of the human will. Can the Lord be any clearer than this, man is dead, he is disabled, and he depraved, and therefore does not want Christ. Once a person has been born from above, he or she can and will serve this great Christ. We will be like the woman at the well John 4 “come see a man that has told me all that I ever done, is not this the Christ. We will be like the maniac that Christ healed and he wanted to follow Christ and he sent back home to do missionary work. We will be like Paul in Acts 9 what wilt thou have me to do Lord. Receive Christ today if he is calling.
