February 03, 2008 Devotion By Pastor Jack Duplechain Message to
Troubled Hearts This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible when it comes to sharing the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST. These verses set forth three main ideas with an introduction found in verse one. We are living in a troubled world of sin, sickness, death and heartache . Christ has the answer for His troubled disciples, and yet it applies to us also. My phone rang this morning; my wife answered, and it was a beloved sister in our congregation whose father had died in South India. What a troubling thought - thousands of miles away and not able to attend your own father’s funeral. My heart bleeds for her and her two girls. In our text above, we see three things. (1.) An appeal of Christ: "Let not your heart be troubled." Once again we go to the Word of GOD to seek an answer to a troubled heart. It is none other than Christ Himself. "Believe also in me" - what comfort we can get from our faith in the LORD JESUS CHRIST. In our hours of need, heartache and disappointment, we can cast all our cares upon Him for He careth for thee. (2.) A promise: "I go to prepare a place for you." A new house is being prepared by Christ for his people - yes, the new city of GOD, the new Jerusalem, a city whose builder and maker is the LORD, a building of our own, a new body. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:1 "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven." This is our glorified body - without sin, without weakness, without pain, without any of the things we have in this old house in which we now live. Troubled heart, take great comfort in these things today. (3.) Christ has promised he will come for us one day: "I will come again, and receive you unto myself." What a promise! Jesus is coming again, so be encouraged in the LORD’S promise that He will come again. No matter what the loss, no matter what darkness you may be in, no matter what pain you suffer, Christ is the answer for everything and for all our spiritual needs. Father, help those who read this today to be lifted up, in Jesus' name, amen.
