Isaiah 43:1-2

But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Passing through

I have been priviledged to meet, counsel, and love a number of families at St. Jude hospital in the last eighteen, or so months. I have literally seen hearts broken -- almost unbearably. I have seen faith demonstrated beyond description. I have seen love and hurt -- not being able to understand; I have seen children, who trust Jesus to heal them and comfort their parents. I have seen the waters and the fires; and, I have seen death invade little bodies.  All  I can say is -- wow. When the LORD says, I created you, and when you pass through certain events in your life -- he means it. In this devotion, look with me at several things from the above text. (1.) He is our creator. If you are saved -- you can believe that.  "He it is that hath made us not we ourselves..." says the psalmist in chapter one hundred. Since he is our creator, then he can do with us as he pleases. Sometimes, the LORD chooses to allow us to experience things in our life -- that is very hurtful -- just as he allows us to have great joy in our life.  James tells us: that "every good and perfect gift comes down from the father of lights with whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning" James 1:17. Job tells us in Job 1:21, "And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."  (2.) He is our redeemer: When we think of what Christ has done for us, we should be able to face any water, any fire, any thing; that the LORD sends our way -- both good and bad. He redeems us, because we are His. He redeems; because, He is our Lord and master. He redeems; so that, we can live with Him forever. He is the able redeemer.  He is a worthy redeemer -- He is a wonderful redeemer. He loves us.  He protects us.  He guides us -- he will continue all that he does, no matter what. (3.) He is with us: think of that; He is with us.  He knows how we feel, when we are hurting.  Peter said, in I Peter 5:7: “Casting all your care upon him for He careth for you.".  So today -- please fall upon Christ, with your burdens, your cares, your hopes; and, believe -- to the ultimate; that, He hath done right. I heard a remarkable story of a man in WWII -- who parachuted from an airplane.  He felt a jar when he hit the ground.  He was soon captured by the Germans and was placed in a little cell; where, he could not move for two months. Later in years, he went for a checkup and an x-ray showed that his neck had been broken and had healed.  He survived what normally would have been total paralysis. The Lord was with him in that jail; and, the Lord kept him there -- so, he could not move to save his life. He was with him.  My friends, the LORD has a purpose for everything in our lives. Help us, dear Lord -- to believe what you have said.  AMEN.
