The Book of Isaiah

Subject- "The Glory Of His Majesty"

Text- " Isaiah 2-6-22

Intro- As we proceed in this chapter with the prophecies of Isaiah we see that he leaves the glory and the beauty of the promise of the Lords house being established in Zion, and his word going forth from Jerusalem to the reality of the time...

He declares that the Lord had forsaken his people...now we have seen from our study in 2 Kings that the reason that the Lord had forsaken them, was first they forsook the Lord. This is true even with us...as a church, then as individuals.

I... " THE BOUNTIFUL BLESSINGS OF THE LORD UPON THEM..VS 7

Proverbs 10:6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. Through out the bible we can clearly see that the Lord blessed these people more than any other on the earth. His love and mercy was sovereignty bestowed upon them. He raised them up out of the Lions of Jacob, he set them free from Egyptian bondage, he led them through the wilderness with a cloud by day and pillow of fire by night. He feed them with the food of heaven, he clothed them , and put shoes on their feet, he filled their land with riches...and yet they never looked up to see where it came from.

David said...Psalm 27:13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

A. THAT THE GOODNESS O F GOD TO US SHOULD CAUSE US TO REJOICE....Jethro Moses father-in-law said these words...Exodus 18:8 And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.

B. THAT THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD SHOULD CAUSE US TO BE SATISFIED.

Psalm 65:4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

II... "PROSPERITY OFTEN LEADS TO MANY SINS...VS 8-11

1ST. That it lead to false worship...vs 8

I want to site a verse from the OT and NT...

a. What David said...Psalm 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

b. What Jesus said.. John 4:22-24 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

2nd. That it lead to a sense false security which lead to the sin of pride...vs 9

The great sin of pride is listed with the 7 sins that God hates....Proverbs 6:16-18 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

III. " THE PROMISE OF JUDGMENT...VS 11-18

1st. The promise of the lofty look being abolished..vs 11-12

The sin of a prideful looks stems from the high estimation of oneself. We know how hard it is to bow to the thought that we are not really to important. The self satisfaction that comes with the lofty look will one day find itself with no where to look....but up to God.

2nd. That the promise also involved there means of productivity...vs 13-18

When the lord takes away that which enables us to maintain a certain life style, then it in turn takes away any pride we may have. If we are made to stand in the soup lines, the homeless shelters, take government hand outs we may seek the Lord then.

The Apostle Paul made it clear...Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

IV...." THE RESPONSE OF THE PEOPLE...VS 20-22

What a picture of what sin really does to us and to those who refuse to humble themselves under the mighty hand pf the Lord...

1st. They seek to hide themselves from the Lord... vs 19 Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

It is the tendency of sinners in a naked condition before the Lord to try to hide themselves from his presence...

Revelation 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

2nd. They were made to see the uselessness of their self made gods...vs 20

James 5-1-6 The love of money and what it can do for you will come back to haunt you and will in the end do you know good...as it is clearly taught here and other places of the word of God.

Next week we will speak to the subject of the Glory of His Majesty....
