The Book of Isaiah

Sermon # 103

 

Text: Isaiah 56:3-8

 

Intro: Last time we preached from this chapter we seen a number of things from the first two verses. We looked at the authority of the text: “thus saith the LORD”. Then we looked at the “revelation of the text”. Tonight we see the continuation of the man that is blessed. He is blessed if he has salvation and the righteousness of the LORD.

 

He is blessed if he or she keeps the spirit of the sabbath in his or her heart. Tonight we see the furtherance of this in these verses....

 

I... “ THE ANXIOUSNESS OF THOSE WHO ARE BLESSED”

 

1ST. The stranger...vs 3

 

Those that have not the blood of an Israelite in them, the gentiles. These are those that came into the nation by circumcision. Now Isaiah through the Prophet is laying down some things for their assurance.

 

1st. Joined himself to the LORD...

 

The word joined means to enter into a relationship with some one or something. In this case it was the nation of Israel and the LORD. What a blessing it is to be joined to the LORD.  1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

 

Paul uses this in reference to the LORD’S church:

 

Ephesians 4:15‑16 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

 

2nd. Don’t say that you are a separate people from the LORD...vs 3

 

Once they had become part of the kingdom of GOD at that time they were one in the LORD. This is the same today...once we are saved now, it doesn’t make any difference who we are...

Eph 2:12-19

 

Colossians 3:10‑11 And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond [nor] free: but Christ [is] all, and in all.

 

Don’t let the Eunuch say I am a dry tree. John Gill says of the Eunuch these words  “having no children, nor could have any; and to be written childless was reckoned a reproach and a curse; nor might an eunuch enter the congregation of the Lord, Deuteronomy 23:1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.  , and yet such a man, having the grace of God, and acting agreeably to it, as in the following verse, should not distress himself on the above accounts.”

 

The grace of GOD removes all obstacles in the way, takes away all sins, removes all guilt, bestows all graces upon him that joineth himself to the LORD.

 

II... “WHAT THE LORD SAYS TO THEM”...VS 4-8

 

All people in the Kingdom of GOD need encouraging from time to time. Some people are made to feel like second class citizens in the Kingdom and in the Church but there are none.

 

Grace brings all us on one level. If a man is saved if a woman is saved what does the bible say about them...

 

1 Corinthians 6:9‑11 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

 

1st. He promises a new name..

 

Isaiah 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

2nd. That it is a better name:

 

Names are important just think of it. Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name [is] better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

 

3rd. An everlasting name:

 

Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth [it].

 

Again here what the LORD saith:

 

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and [I will write upon him] my new name.

 

4th. The security he promises...vs 5

 

Listen to what the LORD tells Peter:

 

Mark 10:28‑30 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

 

John 10:28-30

 

5th. Who it is that he makes this promise to: vs 6

 

a. Those that serve him:


Psalm 100:2‑3 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he [is] God: [it is] he [that] hath made us, and not we ourselves; [we are] his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

 

B. Those that love the name of the Lord: Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

 

c. Those that his sabbath: That is the spirit of worship and all that goes with it...

 

d. Those that take hold of covenant: John Gill says

 

and take hold of my covenant; not the covenant of circumcision, as Kimchi; for what had eunuchs to do with that? but the covenant of grace, the everlasting covenant, the covenant of peace before spoken of  made between the Father and the Son, on account of the elect; which may be said to be taken hold of when a person by faith claims his interest in God as his covenant God; comes to Christ as the Mediator of the covenant; and deals with his blood, righteousness, and sacrifice, for pardon, justification, and atonement; regards all the promises and blessings of the covenant as belonging to him and lives by faith on them, as such; so David by faith laid hold on this covenant,

 

6th. The profound blessing he proclaims: vs 7-8

 

The Lord’s prophesied: Isaiah 2:2  And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

 

Jesus Called it the house of prayer likewise: Matthew 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

 

He will gather the outcast and the gentiles likewise
