Series: Isaiah
Subject: “THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD”
Text: Isaiah 51: 9-16
Intro: The last Sunday night we looked at following after the righteousness of the LORD...and how that in following they were to look to the great examples of the faith, such as Abraham and Sarah that bare them. We also seen that it was the Lord that was to comfort Zion.
That in the midst of all that they were experiencing and where they were located to focus on the delivery that GOD would soon give them. The earth would vanish ..vs 6 it be like smoke and those that hang unto it would die..
The reality of the word of GOD in their hearts and that they were not to fear men redemption was on the way.. It is in this light that the cry for GOD’S help is seen in our text...
I... “ THE RIGHTEOUS PLEA FOR REDEMPTION: VS 9
This verse is not suggesting that the LORD is asleep, because the bible says clearly these words about GOD:
Psalm 121:3‑4 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The way we see it and the way they saw it, when the LORD is silent when he does not move we view him as asleep...that is a metaphor. Here redemption is physical.
1st. The prophet takes on the role of a Priest and a interceder...
What we have a man between the remnant and the LORD .. This seen is repeated over and over in the word of GOD.
2nd. The prophet calls upon the strength of the LORD: “ O arm of the LORD”

The LORD told Moses these words: Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I [am] the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
3rd. He refers back to past experiences in his pleading with the LORD: “ Cut off Rahab and dragon”
JFB
Rahab—poetical name for Egypt. dragon—Hebrew, tannin. The crocodile, an emblem of Egypt, as represented on coins struck after the conquest of Egypt by Augustus; or rather here, "its king, " Pharaoh.. It is clear that he is talking about Egypt from the next verse... look at verse 10.
II... “ THE GREAT FAITH OF THE PROPHET: VS 11
When we ask GOD to do something, when we call upon the LORD we should do it in faith for you and I both know that the LORD is not pleased by those of us who refuse to believe, to see the LORD in the land of the living. Isaiah declared in this verse a number of things...
1st. They shall return...
Isaiah 35:10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Listen tonight the real elect of GOD those that are bought by the blood of the LAMB they shall return as GOD declares they would. This is a positive fact. Just as the bible uses this term in reference to the saviour.. shall call his name Jesus for shall save his people from their sins... it has the same force.
2nd. The manner of their return to Zion: “ everlasting joy and gladness”
This could only be one thing... not external but internal... nothing can take that wonderful everlasting joy of salvation from GOD’s people. Oh yes it may appear at times to be gone and when it is, it is because of sin... Like David when he sinned prayed for the joy his salvation to return.

Have you ever thought about what we have and that does not create in you this eternal joy I have serious questions about you... listen to a few of them. We have
1. A Father that has loved us with an everlasting Love.. Jer 33:3
2. This love is based upon an everlasting covenant: Heb 13:20
3. We have an everlasting Lord: Gen 21:3
4. We have a everlasting possession waiting for us:
5. His mercy is everlasting to us: Psa 100:5
6. We are subject in an everlasting Kingdom: Dan 4:3
7. We have everlasting life: John 3-16
8. Everlasting consolation 2 Thess 2:16
9. We have an everlasting gospel to preach: Rev 14:6
We should bow to our GREAT AND ETERNAL LORD GOD and thank him continually for all the rich blessings he hath bestowed upon us. That should cause great joy in our hearts...
III... “ THE LORD ARISES ON THEIR BEHALF”...VS 12-16
The Lord is always on time, he is never late, he will appear on our behalf when he hath determine to do so. He work by covenant.
1st. He identifies himself to them: vs 12 “ I am he”
I would like to show you how many times GOD identifies himself to his people in the word of the LORD...
2nd. What he does for them.. “ He comforts them and us”
2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
3rd. He rebukes them: vs 12-16
a. For fearing men: vs 12
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

b. For forgetting their maker: vs 13
c. For forgetting his work: vs 13
d. For forgetting who he was..vs 15
e. For forgetting who they were..vs 16
How often do we do the same thing... He indeed is our maker, we have believed his works from his word... we too loose site of who he is, and who we are. We are his....
By a covenant love, by a blood redemption, by a new birth, by a sealed righteousness, by an everlasting love, by a sure promise...all of this because the LORD JESUS CHRIST went to calvary to save us from our sins...
