The Book of Isaiah
Text: Isaiah 50:1-3
Intro: The reality of God’s dealing with his people as a Father is seen in this text. They accused the LORD of leaving them as a man puts away his wife for any little disfavor she may have with him, or he with her. Deuteronomy 24:1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give [it] in her hand, and send her out of his house.
God is building his case against them and they don’t see it. So he makes some comparisons that they were very familiar with. There was another practice in those days, that is if a man owed a debt and could not pay it, he would often sell his children to clear his debt.
Nehemiah 5:1-5
It was ridicules for them to accuse GOD of selling them into captivity because of his creditor’s for GOD owes no man any debt. It is true that GOD chasten them and likewise he chastens us...
Hebrews 12:10‑11 For they verily for a few days chastened [us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we] might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
I.... “ THE REASON SHE WAS PUT AWAY”...VS 1
1st. For her sin and rebellion...
We must remember that GOD always gives room for repentance before he moves with wrath upon his people. He shows many graces to his people who tend to leave him...
The Hymn writer said: Prone to wonder Lord feel it prone to leave the GOD I love..this is true of you and I we have a tendency to wonder and sin against the LORD that bought us..

It is clear in the Bible that men have charged GOD with their acts of foolishness and blamed their sins on others... Listen to what James said..
James 1:13‑15 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
2nd. Because they refused to hear the word of GOD that was sent to them..
Listen to the word of GOD concerning Israel ...
2 Kings 17:13‑14 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, [and by] all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments [and] my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. 14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
2 Chronicles 24:19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
The hardest people in the world to reach is the people of GOD when they have backslidden into sin and the world.. Believe me you don’t have to leave the church to be backslidden you can be that way this evening...
3rd. The marvelous grace of GOD is also seen in how often he sent the word of GOD to them and they would not...
2 Chronicles 36:15 And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
2 Chronicles 36:16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
II... “THE CASE THAT GOD PRESENTS TO THEM:..VS 2
1. He reminds them that when he came to their rescue there was none to hear or answers his call...
Page # 3
Once GOD has extended his call of repentance to a people wether they are his and he does it often and many times and they refuse he brings his wrath upon them.
Proverbs 1:24-33
2nd. The power of the LORD to redeem...vs 2
Note the question the LORD ask... is my hand shorten that I cannot redeem? No he can redeem. The word redeem in the Hebrew means to Ramson by paying a price..
a. The Lord redeemed Israel by his outstretched arm from the Egyptians..
Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I [am] the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
b. The Lord redeemed us his people through the LORD JESUS CHRIST...
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
3rd. The demonstration of THE LORD’S power to deliver...vs 2-3
a. His ability to dry up seas and rivers...
Nahum 1:3‑4 The LORD [is] slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit [the wicked]: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet. 4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
b. His ability to clothe the heavens...vs 3
The Lord may have reference to his work in Egypt in which they were very familiar with..
Exodus 10:21‑22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness [which] may be felt. 22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

Conclusion tonight what lessons can we learn from this?
1. Learn that GOD means business and he will inflict his wrath upon us for sins we refuse to let go with...
Hebrews 12:6‑7 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
2. Learn to listen and hear what GOD’S man has to say to you...
James 1:19‑23 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
