The Book of Isaiah

Subject: “God’s eternal Claim Upon His People”

Text: Isaiah 43-1-7

Intro: There is no doubt that God has a people, through out the O.T. averse after verse God lays claim to his people. Sometimes they are referred to as his people, the people of the Lord, My people. In the N.T. there is 9 references to this fact also.

Matt: 1-21 “ It is said that he would save his people from their sins.

Luke 1- 68 “ It is said that he redeemed his people.

Luke 7-16 “ It is said that he visited his people.

Romans 11-1 “ It is said that he hath not cast away his people.

Heb 10:30 “ It is said that the Lord will judge his people.

Revelation 21:3 “ The Lord will dwell with hsi people.

In this text we shall a great number of things that GOD said he did and will do for his people, mainly inthe text Israel but also applies to all of GOD’S elect.

I... “ THE CREDIBILITY OF THIS TEXT” VS 1 “ THUS SAITH THE LORD”

This phrase is found (413) times in the old testament alone. This phrase speaks of the authority of GOD.

Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel [is] my son, [even] my firstborn:  Exodus 5:1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

1st. That the Lords authority may be challenged but cannot be overruled...

Such was the case with Pharaoh:

Exodus 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who [is] the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

2nd. God’s authority may be called into question by sinful men but to no avail..

Exdous 7:10-12

3rd. God’s authority may be laughed and scorned at by wicked and sinful men, but God will have the last laugh...

Psalm 2:1‑5 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying], 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

II.. “ WHAT THE LORD HATH REVEALED IN THIS TEXT: VS 1

There are four things I wish to point out in this verse...

1. It is the Lord that hath created us:

Psalm 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he [is] God: [it is] he [that] hath made us, and not we ourselves; [we are] his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

(KJV)

2. It is the Lord that formed us:

There is a little difference in the Hebrew words “created” and formed” one has to do with the initial form of us; and the other has to do with God fashioning us so as to have human activity.

3. It is the Lord that redeemed us:

Redeemed means to purchase by paying a price. This is what GOD did for his people. In the case of the Iseralities it was a Lamb in the land of Egypt, in our case it was a Lamb on the cross.

4. It is the Lord that called us:

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

III... “ WHAT THE LORD PROMISES IN THIS TEXT: VS 2

1. When we pass through the waters: Often this speaks of troubles...

Not one of here tonight can say what we are going to be going through this new year, but we can expect some form of troubles this year because it is the lot of the people of the Lord.

Job 14:1 Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

2. I will be with thee: the presence of the Lord in the midst of troubles.

We have to believe that no matter where we are at; no matter what we find ourselves faced with that the Lord will be with us. He said I will never leave thee nor forsake the...

3. Through the rivers: speaks of not putting more on us than we can bear

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

4. Through the fires: speaks of purifying us...

Isa 48:9-11

IV.. WHY THE LORD MAKES THESE PROMISES: VS 3-4

1. Because he ransomed them: vs 3

2. Because they were precious: vs 4

Page 4

3. Because he loved them: vs 4

There is no doubt that we can see the love of GOD through out the Bible for his people, both old and new covenant people. He demonstrated his love for Israel by freeing them, providing for them, comforting them, giving them his special attention on many occasion.

But the greatest demonstration of the love of the Lord is giving his Son to die for us his people.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

V... “THE ENCOURAGEMENT HE GIVES IN THIS TEXT: VS 5-7

1. Fear not...vs 5

2. I will bring..vs 5-6

3. Why he does this..vs 7

For my glory
