Sunday Night
Isaiah Study
Subject- “ The Servant # 2
Text- Isaiah 42:5-7
Intro: Last Sunday night we seen the reality of Jesus Christ being the one in whom the text has reference to. That his Father was well please with the Son. The fact that he would bring judgement to the Gentiles.
We also seen that his preaching was with tenderness and not in a forcible way. That he had a tender ministry as described by the metaphor of a bruised reed, a smoking flax. That he would indeed bring justice and truth.
The inability of his ministry to fail is clearly taught...tonight that explanation of his ministry is continued in these verses that are before us.
I... “ THE STRENGTH OF GOD DECLARED”..VS 5
Through out the book of Isaiah the wonderful story of creation is in it to show forth the glory and majesty of GOD in his abilities. It is also recorded by the ancient writers of the bible.
Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
Three different descriptions of the work he did... As we seen this morning the Lord Jesus Christ is the one who created all things.
1. The heavens: three of them
2. The earth: that which comes out of it.
3. The life of living things: giveth breathe unto the one on it.
Man may never acknowledge it but nevertheless it is true. Paul in his great sermon at Mars hill in the Acts of the Apostles said:
Acts 17:25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

II... “ THE COVENANT PROMISED”..VS 6
A covenant is an agreement in which two parties enter into with certain conditions on both the one making the covenant and the who performs the covenant. In this case it is Jehovah and the Lord Jesus Christ.
This covenant is known as the covenant of grace, the everlasting covenant. In the Book of Hebrews we read this:
Hebrews 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
1st. The fathers promise: vs 6
a. His presence: denoted by the words “ I will hold thine hand”
b. His security: I will keep thee”
c. His gift: “to the people as light”
This gift is spoken of through out the new testament.. Gave his only begotten son, that we might have life.
Luke 2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
2nd. The Sons part in the covenant: vs 7
Isaiah 35:4‑5 Say to them [that are] of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come [with] vengeance, [even] God [with] a recompence; he will come and save you. 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
When we follow the recorded public ministry of Christ then we shall see of greatest of this fulfilled prophecy in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ... When he came, he came to do his part of this great covenant.
Luke 4:17-21

Matt 4:12-17
This great darkness is not physical but rather spiritual darkness. Four hundred years had passed not one ray of hope had been heard. Not one prophet had uttered the word of GOD. Not one preacher had held up the standard banner that Christ is coming and then the voice in wilderness began to cry out “ Behold the Lamb of GOD that taketh away the sin of world.
1. They were in darkness to their condition.
2. They were in darkness to their hope.
3. They were in darkness to who he would be.
Christ came the greatest words that could be uttered to give hope to the hopeless, light to the blind, salvation to the lost, covering to the naked, food to the hungry, life to the lifeless.
1 Timothy 1:15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
When he was on trail he told Pilate these words:
John 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
