Sunday Night

The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “ FACING THE UNKNOWN”

Text- Isaiah 38-9-22

Intro- Last Sunday night we saw that King Hezekiah’s sickness was unto death, we also seen that God did not really add 15 yrs to his life but rather revealed his purpose to him, that in the degree of God he purpose to do this very thing. We also seen how that the message that he was going to die brought about a humility in him, that caused him to turn unto the Lord in full humility.

He prayed and God heard. We must remember that God does hear and answer our prayers according to his will of purpose. We also seen that this event did not change God because God cannot change... Mal 3-6 if he did we would all be consumed.

In our lesson tonight it is about the explanation of what happen and the events of his prayer and conversation with the Lord, and other related truths that if time permits we will handle.

In this lesson we seen Hezekiah’s fear of the unknown, not really knowing what he was going to face. That is true in all of us, not just dealing with the hereafter but the present world, when we are not sure of something there is usely some fear associated with it.

I.. “ONE REASON HE WAS FEARFUL WAS THE LEAVING OF THE JOYS OF HIS LIFE AND THAT IS TRUE WITH ALL OF US...vs 10

In his mind he was deprived of his yrs the remainder of them, that is in his mind he thought he had the right to live out the 3 score and 10 and he had not made it there yet.

In all that life throws at us there is still great joy in life itself with our families and the things that we enjoy doing with our wife and children and our grandchildren. God has given these things to us for the enjoyment of life.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

II... “ANOTHER REASON WAS HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE LORD IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING...VS 11

The way in which he saw the Lord was in that he led his nation from idolatry back to the true worship of the Lord. He saw him in truth, he saw him in the beauty of his creation..

One reason men fear the unknown or seeing God in the world to come is becasue they have not seen him here.

We in our day have both the promise of seeing the Lord now and seeing him after we pass away. We like Moses see the invisible God!

Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.  Where do we see the Lord?

1. We see him in his creation...

Psalm 19:1‑3  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 [There is] no speech nor language, [where] their voice is not heard.

2. We see him in the Lord Jesus Christ...

John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?

3. We see him in his word.

God reveals himself to us through out his word, we see his nature, we see his wrath, we see his love, we see his mercy, we see some of his purpose, we see his dealings with the wicked. We see him in his promises and the fulfilling of them. We see him in our life, we see him how he provides for us, gives us what we need, we see in your life’s. The Lord indeed is every where.

Hezekiah hated to leave that truth that he was indeed seeing the Lord every where.

Two times he ask God will you make an end of me? In verse 12-13 in our text.

III. WHAT HE WAS SEEING IN HIS SICKNESS WAS DEPRESSING HIM THE VERY THOUGHT OF LEAVING THE LAND OF THE LIVING...VS 14-16

Note his request... Undertake for me!

David declared ...Psalm 73:25 Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? and [there is] none upon earth [that] I desire beside thee.

The Apostle Peter said in an answer to the Lord Jesus Christ these words...John 6:68‑69 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

So if you are depressed there is not but one person you can go to that the Lord, plead with him to undertake for you, and he will according to his will of purpose for us.

IV... “ THEN HE PRAISES THE LORD”..VS 17-22

He has something to praise him about the Lord turns his sickness his mourning, his depression, his pleading into praise..because God was merciful to him.

1. He delivered him...vs 17

He acknowledges that the lord does this because he loves him, that he had cast all his sins behind his back. What a thought that the Lord will not look at our sins anymore because he hath cast them on the Lord Jesus Christ, we may look at them, we may allow our sins to haunt us, deprive us of a joy but the Lord want look at them.

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, [so] far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Conclude with his commitment to the Lord...vs 19-22 there are basically two things he declares he will do.

1. That he will teach truth to children..vs 19

What greater honor can we give the Lord than to pass the truth on to our children, to teach them all that God hath taught us...

Deuteronomy 6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

2. A commitment to praise the Lord in the house of the Lord all the days of his life...vs 20

What a privilege it is to come to the house of the Lord each week and prasie him for what he has done and what he is doing and what he shall yet do for us his chosen ones.
