The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “ But Not of Me”

Isaiah 30-1-7

Intro- The people of Judah were expecting an attach upon them from the Assyria so they send gifts to Egypt expecting the favor and the help of the Egyptians. It is our nature just as it was theirs to go to someone other than the Lord.

Proverbs 4:14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men].

The Lord pronounces another woe upon the children of the Lord for going down to Egypt for help...

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because [they are] many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

I... GOING DOWN TO EGYPT IS AN REBELLIOUS ACT AGAINST THE LORD...

There are so many verses that teach us not to make alliances with unbelievers or seek their help..

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

1st. Rebellion is the nature of even Gods people...

Moses declares to his people...Deuteronomy 31:27 For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

2nd. Rebellion is a sin...

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.

II... THIS GOING DOWN TO EGYPT WAS ALSO A PROUD ACT...

Human pride in rebellion seeks to help from the Lord, seeks no covering from the Lord what it says and declares openingly, we don’t need GOD..we can handle it ourselves...

The Great King Nebuchadnezzar learned what pride did to him..

Daniel 4:37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works [are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

We all know that pride wether it be of a nation or an individual it will bring one down and usely without warning..

Hosea 5:5 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.

III.. IT WAS AN UNFAITHFUL ACT... vs 1

1st. Unfaithful in who they sought it from..

They sought counseling and covering from someone who was not their creator, their helper, their sustainer, from someone that did not provide anything at all but trouble for their forefathers, from someone that was a heathen and did not know the Lord GOD..

Proverbs 25:19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

2nd. It was unfaithful in whom they put their faith for strength..vs 2

3rd..This unfaithful act was an act of spiritual adultery against their GOD, lest we think that they are the only ones let me read you from the new testament...

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

IV.. IT WAS A FOOLISH ACT...VS 3

1st. It would turn to their shame..vs 3

2nd. The men they trusted betrays them..vs 4-5

3rd. They wasted their goods...vs 6

Lessons we can learn...

1st. Learn that our help cometh from the Lord.

Psalm 121:1‑5  A Song of degrees. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help [cometh] from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD [is] thy keeper: the LORD [is] thy shade upon thy right hand.

2nd. Learn also that this is not saying that we cannot seek counsel or wisdom of others, but not ahead of the Lord...

Psalm 55:14 We took sweet counsel together, [and] walked unto the house of God in company.

3rd. Learn that the counsel of the Lord is always available...

Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
