The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “And Ye Would Not”

Text- Isaiah 30-1- 18

Intro- We have learned in the time that we have been in the book of Isaiah that it was about the sin and the captivity of the people of God, we also have learned that it is about the judgement of God not only on the Babylonian’s but also his own elect people...

Once again in this lesson tonight we see the people of GOD not respecting the Lord and not trusting in GOD... We want to look at the places that they would not as God has charged them rightfully so in this text...

I... THEY WOULD NOT TAKE COUNSEL OF THE LORD”..VS 1

The charge is clear, rebellion on the part of the people of the Lord..and rebellion is in all of us at one time or another..

Moses said to the Levites ...

Deuteronomy 31:27 For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

Samuel said...

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.

Proverbs 17:11 An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

So it is obvious that rebellion is the foremost reason they would not seek counsel of the Lord.

II... “ THEY REFUSED THE PURPOSE AND THE PLAN OF THE LORD”...VS 1

The Lords plan is always without exception the best plan of all, but they chose the plan and the covering of another spirit..which is typical of following the spirit of the flesh and not the Lord...

One of the reason’s men refuse in their rebellion to follow the Lord in his ways is  because of what the Bible says...

Ezekiel 18:25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

Ezekiel 18:29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

The Lord said of Abraham these words...

Genesis 18:18‑19 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

III... “ THEY WOULD NOT ASK STRENGTH OF THE LORD”...VS 2-3

They preferred the strength of the world to that of God, how many times have we been guilty of the same thing, that is we ask help of every body but the Lord. We seek not the strength of the Lord...

David said...

Psalm 71:16 I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, [even] of thine only.

It is the business of every NT christian that we do as the Apostle Paul said..Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

III... “ THEY WOULD NOT ADHERE TO THE LAW OF THE LORD AND WHAT THE PROPHETS TOLD THEM...VS 9-12

We know that lost people cannot hear the word of God, but we do know that the  Lords people can with the exception that is before us in this text, they refuse it, and turn their hearts away from it...

1st. Note what they wanted in stead of the word of the Lord...vs 10

This my friends is not just their age but it was early in the ministry of the Apostle Paul for he wrote of it...

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Tell us anything but that which is write, we will listen to a lie, we would have a half truth, we like to soothed with pleasant words but don’t tell us the right things, this is our generation also.

IV. THE JUDGEMENT OF GOD DECLARED”..VS 11-18

1st. The promise of hope for some...vs 15

2nd. The judgement declared..vs 16-17

3rd. The gracious Lord...vs 18

a. The patience and longsuffering of the Lord...

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us‑ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

B. The results of the Lord waiting...

“Grace and mercy”
