The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “ Drunkeness And It’s Consequences”

Text- Isaiah 28- 1-8

Intro- Sin without question will always have a consequence to it, it may not appear at first, but it will appear by and by. One of the most damaging sins in America

is the sin of Drunkeness.

Of course there is more than one kind of drunkeness but it all has a great effect upon everyone that it touches... There are many dunk with sports, jobs, dope, drunk with self, but this text speaks of Drunkeness as it relates to alcohol.

I... “THE WARNING THE LORD  GIVES...VS 1-3

The pronouncing of a warning by the word WOE indicates the displeasure of the Lord...it is found through out the BIBLE...

Solomon said...

Proverbs 23:29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

(KJV)

Nine times in the gospel of Matthew the Lord Jesus pronounce WOES upon the Pharisees and the Sadducees.. It is a judgement when it is used, through the Book of Revelation it is also used quite a few times..

1st. It appears to me that they were so consumed but drunkeness that it was their pride..vs 1

It was not just pride it was the crown to them, it was their chief lust fulfilled, and God is warning them of what the consequence is.

2nd. Their glorious beauty was begin to fade away...vs 1

It does not immediately fade away it comes little by little and then all of sudden it is very obvious to those who see it and watch it, it stands out for all to behold it..

II... “ THE PROPHET DESCRIBES THOSE WHO ARE FILLED WITH THIS AWFULNESS OF WINE AND STRONG DRINK...VS 5-8

1st. The error of that day sprung from their drunkeness ...vs 7-8

When the men of God takes up drinking they will lead their people off into gross sinning also.. Leaders are accountable to God and his wrath when they error in drinking..

Hosea 4:11‑13 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. 12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused [them] to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God. 13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof [is] good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

As in this text you can see that drinking and immorality go hand and hand together.. Nothing is more damaging than for GODS people to be caught up in this sin of drunkeness and whoremongering...

III... “MAKE APPLICATION TO THIS TEXT”...

1st. Remember that the  bible condemns drunkeness...Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Note the contrast... as wine controls the senses so should we be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can be intoxicated by him so as to control us...

Listen to what Jesus said..

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and [so] that day come upon you unawares.

2nd. Remember that the bible says it is a work of flesh..

Galatians 5:19‑21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

3rd. It will lead to poverty...

Proverbs 21:17 He that loveth pleasure [shall be] a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.

4th. It will lead to a disregard of the work and the word of God..

Isaiah 5:11‑12 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, [that] they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, [till] wine inflame them! 12 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
