SUNDAY NIGHT

THE BOOK OF ISAIAH

Subject- “ What It Means To Trust In The Lord”

Text- Isaiah 26-4

Intro- One of the Most difficult things in the world for a Christian to do is to really trust in the Lord..It is not difficult when things seem to be going our way, but if the ship gets rocked with the winds and the storms of this life, we seem to loose sight of who we are and whom we have trusted to save our souls.

We are the Lords inheritance, we are his people the sheep of his pasture, we are the elect of God the born from above children of GOD... it took a great price to get us, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. So why is so hard for us to leave it in the hand  of the  LORD? I may not be able to answer that question....to suit myself or you but I will in this sermon tonight give enough evidence concerning the subject of trusting the Lord that maybe we can find something in it that will answer our question...

“WHEN WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT SOMETHING IS THAT NOT TRUSTING IN THE LORD?

No, I believe that it human to be concerned both for our own self and the ones that we love. I think that concentration on ourselves to much will lead us to a point that we are not able to trust in the Lord...

I... “THE DUTY OF THE TEXT”

Not only does Isaiah tell his people and us to trust in the LORD but to do forever indicating that we must trust in him....

1st. This implies we must submit ourselves to the will of GOD...

The Prophet Samuel Told Eli what God was going to do to his house and it was devastating and listen to the Reply of ELI..

1 Samuel 3:17‑18 And he said, What [is] the thing that [the LORD] hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide [it] not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide [any] thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee. 18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It [is] the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

2nd. It also implies that we are to make real application to the Lord in trusting in him...

Hezekiah trusted the Lord and I want to read you what it is said of him because he trusted in the Lord his GOD...

2 Kings 18-3-7

3rd. It also tells me that we must depend on the Lord and when we do that is trusting in the Lord.

This is not saying that God does not use means, he does, we must seek his will in the matter and seek it diligently so that we may find the means and the will of the Lord for our life so we can trust him.

There is a consequence for not relying on the Lord..2 Chronicles 16:7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.

II... “ THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF THE TEXT...

The encouragement is based upon the truth that is set forth in the words “ for the LORD is an everlasting strength”...

1st. We are delivered by the strength of the Lord... “Moses Told Israel these words”

Exodus 13:3 And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this [place]: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.

2nd. We are encouraged by the many text of the Bible that declare that GOD is able to help therefore we must trust him...

Psalm 20:6 Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: [but] God [is] the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

All God’s people need to be encouraged to trust in the Lord from the those who may seem to have little faith, to those who have walked with GOD and then found some times in their human frailty that they could not trust in the Lord...Not one of us is exempt from this, we all fall short of the expectation that GOD has laid on his people..

III... “ IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT WE BECOME MORE ACQUAINTED WITH OUR BIBLE IN ORDER THAT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO TRUST IN THE LORD..

I am so afraid to day that few people really study their bibles and the reason that I have come to that conclusion is because so many seem not to know to much about their bibles. Do you have a time when you really study your bible...

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

This will aide you in being able to trust in the Lord...Psalm 118:8‑9 [It is] better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. 9 [It is] better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

IV. WHAT IS THE RESULTS IN TRUSTING IN THE LORD?

1st. It brings honour the Lord..

2nd. It unites us to the Lord..

3rd. It brings peace in our hearts.

4th. It helps us to be cheerful knowing we have really trusted in the Lord.

5th. It builds an unwavering faith in the ability of the Lord..

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The Key to this text is found in the word “DILIGENTLY” which means to persevere in seeking the help of the Lord...and we must do this if we are to trust in the Lord...
