Sunday Night

The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “ Thou Art My God”

Text- Isaiah 25-1-5

Intro- The Prophet now turns himself from the death and the destruction that God had put upon the Babylonian empire, to the great hope and peace that comes from knowing the great God whom he has been receiving message after message concerning the heathen nations...

In this lesson tonight I will show three main things....

1. His claim of God...

2. His commitment to God ...

3. His reasons set forth..

I.... “ HIS CLAIM OF GOD...VS 1

As you and I both know that a claim upon the Lord, results from first, a claim of God upon us. It is the Lord that  makes the initial move toward us, actually it is further than that, it reaches into the dateless and the timeless past...

Jeremiah was told by the Lord these words...

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

In order for sinners to make this claim upon the Lord I wish to make a number of observations for you and I to consider...

1st.. To claim a possession of God as your personal saviour you must be able to believe that he is...

You remember the story of David and the Giant, listen to what David told this man without any fear in his heart whatsoever..

1 Samuel 17:46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

Daniel said...Daniel 2:28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

Paul said...Hebrews 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

2nd... You must be able to trust in him if you expect him to deliver...

2 Samuel 22:31 [As for] God, his way [is] perfect; the word of the LORD [is] tried: he [is] a buckler to all them that trust in him.

It is our duty to do so..Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times; [ye] people, pour out your heart before him: God [is] a refuge for us. Selah.

II.... “ THE COMMITMENT OF ISAIAH...VS 1

1st. That he will exalt the Lord...vs 1

This word exalt has do with the lifting up of the Lord to have the proper position in our life of the Lord and willing to keep that before our souls...keep in mind that you cannot exalt him literally except in our souls for he is exalted..

Isaiah 33:5 The LORD is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness.

Solomon said...

1 Chronicles 29:11 Thine, O LORD, [is] the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all [that is] in the heaven and in the earth [is thine]; thine [is] the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

The Lord is exalted because there is no God above him...Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, [even] I, [am] he, and [there is] no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither [is there any] that can deliver out of my hand.

2. That he will praise the Lord...vs 1

David said...Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Psalm 106:1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

There can be no doubt that the Lord is worthy of all praise...and we shall give it unto him..Psalm 76:10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

III.... “ HIS REASONS SET FORTH...VS 1-2

He sets forth two reasons for his exalting of the Lord and his praise of him in his heart...and these should be ample enough for any one who claims the Lord as saviour..

1st.. The wonderful things that the Lord hath done...

Psalm 98:1  A Psalm. O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

Job 5:8‑10 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause: 9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number: 10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

Without running many scripture reference you and I both are acquainted with the many wonderful things, and the marvellous things that our Lord hath done in the past and thing that he hath done in our life personally..

He saved me by his grace, he called me to preach, he confirmed the calling by many times that he has used me in the ministry...he has given me a faithful wife of 32 yrs, he has blessed my home with three children, and 9 grandchildren.. He has saved all three of my kids and the story can be told by many of you here tonight...to be the same with exception to preaching other than Bro Shockey.

2nd. The faithfulness of the Lord...vs 1

Numbers 23:19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Psalm 119:90 Thy faithfulness [is] unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

We can make this claim of the Lord in our own lives once again, we have seen that the Lord is faithful in all that he says and does...

1 Corinthians 1:9 God [is] faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

3rd. The truth of the Lord...vs 1

Jacob of old said...Genesis 32:10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

When Christ came it was said of him...John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

There are so many things than needs to be said about truth and that could be said about truth that we will pick up here next Sunday night the Lord willing...
