Sunday Night

The Book of Isaiah

Text- Isaiah 24-16-23

Intro- It is always my intention when I study to find the truth, then proclaim it with such a confirm conviction in my heart that none who hear me will doubt what I believe to be the truth. It is so in this passage.

I have tried to find the truth and then relate  that to you. I am convinced that the first two sermons on this chapter I have shared the truth with you. Thus tonight as we continue this chapter I will nowise less with this passage...

I... “ THE CONTINUATION OF THE PRAISE AND GLORIFYING THE LORD IN THE FIRES.. VS 16

1st. What he hears... “Songs of glory to the righteous”

Whenever God delivers his people they sing and praise him for it.. When Moses was used of God to deliver the Children of Israel from bondage they crossed the red sea and they sang a song to the holiness of the Lord and the victory he got over Pharaoh and his army...

Exdous 15-6-13

Wherever Gods people are they shall be heard singing to praises of the Lord for his gathering them out of the enemies hand and bringing them back home together..

Both Gill, and Matthew Henry believe even though they have totally different interpretation of this passage that this speaks of the “The righteous one” these are songs of the scattered as they make their way back to Palestine...

Exodus 9:27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD [is] righteous, and I and my people [are] wicked.

2 Chronicles 12:6 Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD [is] righteous.

Psalm 129:4 The LORD [is] righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

2nd. What he declares ... “My Leanness , My Leanness”

Here I believe to Prophet to view his beloved nation as being poverty stricken because of their sin against the Holy One. I know that there is the reality of what sin can do to us not only as a christians and a nation but as “individuals” it will indeed leave us lean..and we will fill it..

II... WHAT HE PREDICTS ABOUT THE EVIL NATIONS”...VS 17-19

Ec 9:12  For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

Jeremiah said...

Jer 48:43  Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD. Jer 48:44  He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

Fear is a terrible thing and when it grips the heart none can move it but the Lord. Here these nations shall run but there will be know place to run...Note the interesting phrase “ The windows from on high are open”...

1st. It was so in the flood...

Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Just as God opens them and no one is able to stop them, he is the one that closes them after the flood listen to what it says...

Genesis 8:2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

It appears to me that this is a great earthquake that God sends and the pits is the earth opening up..through out the Bible and in the future that judgement is accompanied by earthquakes..turn to Psalms 18-7-11

This something of a marvel when we think of it, to be right in the midst of judgment and see the effects it has upon men and the effects it has upon the earth... “ is utterly broken down” is clean dissolved”...vs 19 and the earth moved exceedingly...

III... THE CONFIRMATION ISAIAH MAKES...VS 20-23

The judgment of God is so severe that it will cause the earth to rock and reel like a drunken man. It shall be removed like a little cottage. Sometimes we seem to think that the earth is so powerful and that it is that it cannot come to end...but alas it will.

I do believe that judgement did come to these nations and in it we can see the final judgment of god as we seen last Sunday night...but also it is clear that the earth is disclosing her blood at that time and it will be so in the future also...

1st. The destruction of the high ones and the kings of the earth...20-22

The  high ones‑‑the heavenly host, that is, either the visible host of heaven (the present economy of nature, affected by the sun, moon, and stars, the objects of idolatry, being abolished, this is exactly what Isaiah and the Apostle peter said...

Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 2 Pet 3-10-14

2nd. Shut up and after many days visited...vs 22

This speaks of God preserving them for judgment...Job 21:30 That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

3rd.. The connection ...

Isaiah 13-9-11

Isa 60:19  The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

Isa 60:20  Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

This must speak of the eternal age of the reign of Christ for this is what is taught in the Book of Revelation...21-22-23
