Isaiah

Text- Isaiah 23-1-18

Intro- When we first began the study of these last few chapters in Isaiah we noted that the man of God, in this case the Prophet Isaiah, was under tradmendous burden to declare the message of the Lord concerning these nations.

It began with the burden of his own nations in chapter one the people of God had slipped away into the clutches of sin, then as God revealed to him he begin to declare the burden that God put upon his heart...

The word BURDEN comes from a word that means, “to carry a load bearing message” this is what he has to do, in a sense every man that is called to carry the message of the Lord today carries a load bearing message also.

The Burden of Babylon – Chp 13

The Burden of Moab------Chp 15

The Burden of Damascus-Chp 17

The Burden of Egypt -----Chp 19

Tonight we come to the Burden of TYRE...whose name means “the rock”  the Phoenician city on the Mediterranean coast...it is believed among most that Babylon was the heart of the kingdom of men, while Tyre was the heart of the commerce. One controlled the land, the other the sea. It is realistic to see how God cuts off the land power, and then the sea...

I... “DISTRESSING NEWS”...VS 1-7

The very lifeline of the nation was to be laid waste, total devastation was to take place. The great benefit of the seashores and the ports of any nations that is taken away will suffer tramendously. It pays nations even if they don’t do it to adhere to the following....

1st.  That God is in control of all that we have as a nation and at his command we can loose it all.

Proverbs 21:1 The king's heart [is] in the hand of the LORD, [as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Psalm 107:33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground; Psalm 146:9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.

2nd. Be still... vs 2

Page # 2

a. We need to be still and know that he is God that rules the nations of the world and our life.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I [am] God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

This word “be still” is an imperative, meaning it is a command, we don’t have an option in the matter, and it carries the idea that we are rest, and that we are to be at peace...it like that when the Lord Jesus Christ spoke to the sea...

Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

3rd. Be thou ashamed...vs 3

This word “Ashamed means to be confounded or confused”... which means to perplexed or very mixed up...and it does not mean just to be mixed up about a small matter, but have it all throwed together so as to thoroughly mixed and confused about everything..

The first time this word appears in the Bible is with our first parents..Genesis 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. Here it is used in a positive way they were not ashamed...

This confusion is in the hands of the Lord to dispense it as he sees fit...listen to David and you will understand what I mean...Psalm 25:2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

The truth of the matter in this text is that Tyre is not going to survive this judgement that God is going to bring upon her. She will be fainthearted, she will be confused, she will not be able to bring forth her merchandise again to the cities...vs 5

4th. Howl ye...vs 6-7

This word howl mean to wail, and it means to do it with a variant howling a different kind like they had not done before...

Isaiah 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD [is] at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

This event is not just another down play in the sales of their merchandise they have never had anything like this before. He calls up the coast land to take notice at what is happening..

Less you think this only applies to the Old testament Look with me to the book of James 5-1-5

Jeremiah 17:11 [As] the partridge sitteth [on eggs], and hatcheth [them] not; [so] he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

3. That it will eat at them...vs 3

It is said also in the book of Revelation 17:16‑17 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the  whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

4. Their crooked dealing has caught up with them...vs 4

Leviticus 19:13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob [him]: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

a. God hath purposed it...
