The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “ The Prophecy Against Egypt”

Text- Isaiah 19-1-25

Intro- The great nation of Egypt was no stranger to the judgements of God. The first mention in the Bible of Egypt is in Genesis 12:10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine [was] grievous in the land.

It was in Egypt that the people of God became slaves as the result of populating the land of Egypt and a King rose up that knew not Joesph..Exodus 1:8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

It was in Egypt that Moses life was spared by the providence of God so that he would become the leader of this people and give them the law of God and lead them out of bondage.

Exodus 3:7‑8 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

It was in Egypt that the Lord rained down certain types of judgements upon that great nation and its leaders..

Exdous 1-20-21 “The first plague of river turned into blood”

Exdous 8:5-6 “The second plague was a plague of frogs”

Exdous 8:16-17 “The third plague was the land was filled with lice”

Exdous 8:24-25 “The fourth plague was the flies filling the house of Pharaoh and all his servant”

Exdous 9:6 “The fifth plague was upon the cattle of Egypt and they died but not Gods Peoples”

Exdous 9:10 “The sixth was the plague of boils upon man and beast”

Exdous 9:15 “The seventh was diseases upon them”

Exdous 9:18-19  “The eight was hail that killed both man and beast”

Exdous 10:12-15 “The ninth plague was locust filling the land and eating everything in their sight”

Exdous 10:21-23 “The tenth plague was the plague of darkness for three days”

Exdous 12:29-30 “The 11th plague was the plague of death”

The intensity changes after all the judgements of the Lord upon their land upon the house of Pharaoh he lets the people go, but pursues them in a last attempt to refuse what God has said...man no matter what God does to him externally will not repent it takes the internal work of the Lord.

I.... “ THE INVASION OF THE LORD”...VS 1

The judgment of God upon Egypt was declared by Joel the prophet also...Joel 3:19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence [against] the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

David also speaks of God riding...

Psalm 18:10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.

Psalm 104:3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

We are told that the Lord Jesus whom a cloud received up in to glory..will come in the clouds of glory...Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

1st. What happens when God comes on the seen....vs 1 They are moved with fear...”their hearts melted”

In the book of Jeremiah there is a similar prophecy that I believe deals with the same time and the same judgment..Jeremiah 43:11‑13 And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, [and deliver] such [as are] for death to death; and such [as are] for captivity to captivity; and such [as are] for the sword to the sword. 12 And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace. 13 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that [is] in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

In every way, and in every since, and in every situation when God comes things happen, lives are changed, nations are brought down, both good and bad. Oh that the Lord would come into our church and change all of us to bring glory to him, into our nations the melting pot of Idolatry today and judge us and turn us back to him...

Psalm 97:5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

II.... “WHAT GOD SAID HE WOULD DO”...

1st. He would send Internal strife...vs 2

Nothing will bring down a nations like that of internal strife, it will weaken, it will lead to distrust, it causes jealousy to flourish...

Paul said...

Galatians 5:19‑21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

2nd. The result of their strife...vs 3

Their spirit is broken...and the result of that is they have no leadership God moves them out of the way...and now they seek to their gods of Idols which will not help them...

3rd. They are given over to slavery...vs 4

This powerful and rich nations is reduced to nothing by the Lord and now begins to drink of their own medicine they had put up on others...

Ezekiel 29:19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.

Again...

Ezekiel 30:10‑12 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also make the multitude of Egypt to cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. 11 He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: and they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain. 12 And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken [it].
