The Book of Isaiah
Subject- “ The Recovery of God’s Remnant”
Text- Isaiah 11-11-16 CHP 12-1-6
Intro- First I want to say that many people and many writers have tried to unravel this text to suit ones on theology with regard to the elect of God. I do not propose to understand this fully in it’s entirety, but I do see some light in this passage in regard to the salvation of Jews from among the 12 tribes.
Sometimes to learn the truth you can deduct from a passage what it does not say. So this will be my approach to this passage. This passage says nothing of a national restoration, that is of the whole of Israel, but it does speak of recovering his people from the gentile nations to save them.
Wherever God’s elect are he will set his hand a second time to save them vs 11-13 In this text it is promise that God would remove all obstacles from them in order that this great prophecy may be fulfilled. When Solomon was King the Kingdom was divided into two with 10 tribes to the south, and two tribes to the north. The two tribes Benjamin and Judah became known as Judah, and the 10 souther tribes became known as Israel.
In verse 14-16 the Lord promises that he would remove all obstacles in the way so that this would be fulfilled. The promise of the wonderful effect upon the nature of man in this text is declared to be the effect upon Judah and Israel, they would no longer envy one another when this event occurs.
The promise of the text also declares that he would do this as he did when he led them from the hands of the Egyptians. Highway is the passage that he makes for them. The gentiles were promise salvation in Christ and the Jews are promised salvation in Christ, and all the blessings of his Kingdom fall on all who trust him as their Savior...
All of this proven by the fact that in the days of Christ and the Apostles this great promise found its fulfillment in many of the elect turning to Christ and his church...especially on the day of Pentecost.
The gathering of them from the world of the gentiles is clearly seen in some the verses in the second chapter of Acts...
Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Look at verses 9-11 3000 of these jews were saved that day, and then in Acts 4:4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
The Lord had marked these out from those who had been gathered back into this country were God had placed them. It was not until Cornelius house were there any gentiles permitted into the lord’s church....acts 10

It further seen in the writings of the epistles that are Jewish that God fulfilled his promises concerning them being saved...
1 Peter 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
James 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Note that this was not addressed to the 10 northen and the 2 souther, but rather to the whole house of Israel, restored now to serve under their eternal and everlasting King, The Lord Jesus Christ. He would reign over them as he does us forever...
The 12th chapter is also a prophecy with reference to that day when this would occur. We shall see in this song that Christ is King and that salvation is in him both for his elect among the Jews and his elect among the gentiles.
I... THE REDEEMED DEAL WITH BOTH PAST AND PRESENT..VS 1
1. You were angry with me...
2 Kings 17:18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
2. That now God comforts them..vs 1
Here the word comfort means to be moved with pity and have compassion on them. This is exactly what the Lord does with his people they anger him they repent and he has pity on them.
Isaiah 63:9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
II... THE ACKNOWLEDGMENT THE TEXT CLEARLY MAKES...VS 2
1. That was their salvation..vs 2
Psalm 62:7 In God [is] my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, [and] my refuge, [is] in God.
Let it be understood that no one has ever been saved apart from the fact that God is the one that does it without the help of anyone.

2. That such salvations removes all fear...vs 2
a. Age old principle in the word of God... Deuteronomy 3:22 Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
(KJV)
b. Age old promise...Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I [am] thy shield, [and] thy exceeding great reward.
c. Ancient practice...Acts 27:23‑24 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
Acts 27:25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
3. That God is his strength..vs 2
Jehovah is none other than Jesus Christ our saviour who indeed is our strength and without him we have none... Paul said when we were without strength in due time Christ died for the wicked. He further said..Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
III... WHAT THEY WOULD DO...VS 3-5
1. They would draw from a well that would never run dry.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
John 7:37‑38 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
2. They would call upon his name and declare his work among the people...vs 4
Psalm 145:4‑7 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. 5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. 6 And [men] shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. 7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.
3. They were to sing...vs 5-6
a. That their singing was to the Lord.
Psalm 30:4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
b. They were to cry out and shout...vs 6
It is clear as to why they were to cry out... because great is the Holy One of Israel...which is Jesus Christ...
27 times out of 40 times mentioned in the Bible the Holy one is declared in Isaiah book. That tells me a lot that Jesus Christ is essence of Isaiah prophecies and promises....
In this book he is...
Born of a virgin..
Born as a King...
Declared to be the mighty God..
The Everlasting father..
The Prince of peace...
The counselor..
The one in who the government of his kingdom rest..
