Sunday Night
The Book of Isaiah
Subject- “ The Glorious Rest Christ Gives”
Text- Isaiah 11-10 & Matt 11-28-30
Intro- The things that this text addresses in my understanding is the wonderful blessing that we as the elect of God receive as the result of his great work that he has done, that he is doing, and that he shall yet do for us his chosen ones.
The glory of his rest and the rest that he gives to his people is in harmony with all that he does as the Mediator, the substitute redeemer. It is often said that the one who labors the hardest enjoys the rest the most. Thus Christ labored to save us is without question and when he had finished his earthly work he sat down at the right hand of his majesty on high.
In this message to night I want to speak of the rest that he gives his people..The initial rest that Christ gives us is in our calling and conversion. We see that In his call in the gospel of Matthew.
I... “ THE PROMISE OF THE TEXT”...VS 10 “ HIS REST SHALL BE GLORIOUS”
1. It is a glorious rest because it relieves us of a load that we cannot bear.
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
2. It is a glorious rest because it satisfies the heart that is troubled.
Psalm 73:25‑26 Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? and [there is] none upon earth [that] I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: [but] God [is] the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
3. It is a glorious rest because it free’s us from the fear of death...
Hebrews 2:14‑15 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
There is no doubt all die...how will you die? The rich man died unprepared...Luke say’s in hell he lifted up hi eye’s...Judas died unfaithful...turned the Lord in for 30 pices of silver.. Ananias and Sapphira died unclean...the lied to the Holy Spirit Acts 5.. Herod in the Acts of the Apostles died suddenly...because when he made a great speech he didn’t give the Lord the glory..
4. It is glorious because it assures us of relief from earthly cares...

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
5. It is glorious because it assures us of a future rest forever in eternity...
Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed [are] the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
6. It is glorious because it has no comparison...
You see peace comes as the result of rest, and only Christ can give that wonderful peace from the struggles of this life and soul...
Isaiah 54:10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
II... “ IN WHOM IS THIS REST”.... “THE ROOT OF JESSE”

1. It is in the Lord..
Psalm 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
2. It is the good paths..
Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].
The quickest way not to have this peace is to refuse to walk in the old paths and seek them out. How we need to return to the old paths..what are some of those old paths.. They are God’s way’s and we need to seek them.

The Lord’s way is strength to those who find it and walk it and maintains this wonderful peace and rest to the soul.
Proverbs 10:29 The way of the LORD [is] strength to the upright: but destruction [shall be] to the workers of iniquity.
3. It is the wilderness...
Jeremiah 31:2 Thus saith the LORD, The people [which were] left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; [even] Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
Conclude tonight....
With the coming of the Lord Jesus the first time, with the ushering of his kingdom, we can rest tonight on the fact that....
Righteousness is established, redemption is accomplished, Satan is conquered, God is glorified in his Son, The church is doing is work and purpose for which Christ set it up, God’s elect have been, they are being, and they shall be gathered in from the four corners of the earth both Jew and Gentile..
With the coming of the Lord Jesus the first time be assured and rest in your soul tonight that his purpose cannot be nullified, his blood cannot be shed in vain, his power and grace cannot be successfully resisted, his eternal and everlasting love cannot be destroyed, his will cannot be frustrated, and his word cannot be broken...
Psalm 150:6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
