Sunday Night

Subject- “The Intense Wickedness and The Visit of Divine Justices”

Text- Isaiah 10-1-4

Intro- Lawlessness is a terrible thing. It is in the face of lawlessness that men who are depraved by nature that such acts that are recorded by Isaiah are committed. A lawless society tends to have no respect for themselves, their families, and the life and property of others.

The pronouncing of “WOE’s” in the bible speaks of the coming of the judgement of the Lord. It is found through out this book, and through out the Bible.

I... “THE INSENSITIVE DECREES OF THE UNRIGHTEOUS..VS 1

1ST.  These decrees were unrighteous...vs 1

A decree is a law made by a King or by God...Such as in the days when Daniel and his friends were in captivity, note the decree made against them and all wise men...

Daniel 2:12‑13 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise [men] of Babylon. 13 And the decree went forth that the wise [men] should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

Through out the Bible we have seen Kings make such decrees against the people of God. Persecution of those righteous.

II... “ WHAT THESE DECREES WERE..VS 2

1ST. The wicked intent on the poor and the helpless...

a. The reality stated in the bible concerning the poor...

Deuteronomy 15:11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

b. The intent of the wicked declared by David...

Psalm 37:14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, [and] to slay such as be of upright conversation.

c. The poor and the needed are always the victims of the wicked and the rich.

Ezekiel 22:29 The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

2. The wicked intent of the acts of these men...vs 2 “Make merchandise of the widows”

How easy a prey is the helpless widows of our land to the wicked intent of those who set themselves to do harm to these people.

When the Lord Jesus Christ came to this earth and during his public ministry he made open rebuke to those who did this very thing....

Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

God thinks highly of the widows who are widows indeed...James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.

III... “ THE SURE PROMISE OF THE PROPHET CONCERNING DIVINES JUSTICE COMING...VS 3-4

The day of visitation has several meanings...

1. Sometimes his visitation is intended to help his people and deliver them from servitude...

Exodus 4:31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

2. Sometimes it means the constant watching of his people chasten them for sin.

Psalm 89:32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

3. Sometimes such as in this text before us, the visitation of the Lord has to do with his severe judgement after many warnings...

Jeremiah 5:9 Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

Other such days as the one before us are termed like this...

A... A day of trouble..Isaiah 22:5 For [it is] a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord GOD of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.

B... A day of death.. Ecclesiastes 8:8 [There is] no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither [hath he] power in the day of death: and [there is] no discharge in [that] war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

C. A day of Judgment... Jesus used it.

Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Peter said...

2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Christ declares the upcoming destruction of Jerusalem in the day of their visitation...

Luke 19:42‑44 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things [which belong] unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, 44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

IV. THE WONDERFUL GRACE OF GOD DURING JUDGEMENT...VS 3-4

Note he ask two questions...

1. To whom will ye flee?

It is said in the Bible...

Proverbs 28:17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of [any] person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

2. Where will ye leave your glory?

Conclude with these observations...

1. Settle it in your minds tonight that the day of visitation will come.

2. Be aware of the kindness of God right now... “ his hand is stretched out”

3. If you fail to take heed, then you will face the bitter end of the awfulness of his day of visitation.
