Isaiah

Subject- “The Benefits of The Reign of Christ”

Text- Isaiah 9-6-7

Intro- Last week we looked at the promise of the birth and names and the Lord Jesus Christ. This presented a great hope in the hearts of the people of the Lord. It was a vast contrast between any King and leader that they had previously known.

We also seen that he would have a government that would be laid upon his shoulders and that the peace that would come from that would be eternal and everlasting. We also seen that it would increase in our hearts.

We also talked about how that his Kingdom was spiritual and it was in the hearts of all who have been saved by his grace.....

I.... “OUR TEXT SPEAKS OF HIS THRONE” VS 7

It is my understanding that the nation of Israel believed that the throne of David was to be occupied by decedents of David. Thus they believed that through the blood line of David would come one to rule and reign forever.

When Luke wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit concerning the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ note what he said concerning this very subject...

Luke 1:31‑33 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

I believe also that later on after Christ was raised up that Luke interpreted the truth about the Throne of David..and it is settled in my heart...

Acts 2:22-33

Then one more verse that I believe will seal up this fact before we move on to our next thoughts and it is found in Revelation and Christ himself spoke it..

Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

II... “WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE LORDS SOVEREIGN REIGN?

1st. That he is saving his people from their sins.

This was the main mission of Christ, it was not to save us from wrongful government, it was not to save us from the world, but from our sins.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

1 Timothy 1:15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

A. Christ spoke of his willingness to save...

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

B. Paul speaks of the ability to save....

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

2nd. That he is walking in the midst of his churches...

A. He promised this would be his mission...Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

B. He reveals this to us in the vision of the candlesticks...

Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

The Lord Jesus Christ instituted the church, commissioned the church, empowered the church, he is the head of the church, he gave himself for the church, he alone is the one in which his father gets glory through the church....

Ephesians 3:21 Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

As long as the churches of the Lord do what he has commissioned us to do, he will be with us if not he will remove himself from us...

3rd. That he rules us with his sharp two edged sword.

Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.

You ask what is this sword, it is the word of God. Nothing cuts like it, nothing breaks us down like, nothing conquers like it. The reality of this is found in the letter to the church at Peragmos and Christ said these words...

Revelation 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Gods word is a spiritual sword...Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

4th. That he is truest of all leaders to his people....

a. He is a true leader in that he promise that he will never leave us...

Hebrews 13:5 [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

b. He is a true leader in that he will comfort us...

John 14:17‑18 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

c. He is a true leader because of the many things he does for us without question...

Psalm 23

He lays us down in green pastures

He leads beside still waters.

He restores our souls

He leads us in right paths

He comforts us.

He prepares a table before our enemies.

He anoints us so that our cups runs over.

He allows goodness and mercy to follow us all the days of our lives.

He brings us home at last...
