Sunday Night

The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “No Light In Them”

Text- Isaiah 8-16-22

Intro- Last Sunday night we spoke of how Judah had rejected the quite running waters of Shiloah and that these waters were representive of the often unnoticed mercies of the Lord to his people. We do that very thing as I stated last week...

Then we seen how that God turned the strong rivers of water that would be a rushing mighty flood upon Judah, and that this rushing river was in reality the Assyria...for they came over with all the Kings glory, and went over all his banks...vs 8

Then we saw how that the promise of Christ coming was a source of comfort to the remnant of Judah and Isaiah the prophet in a time of great rebellion against the Lord...and that when he came he would be a rock of offense and stone of stumbling to the houses of Israel...vs 14-15

Luke 20:18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Once Isaiah understands what the Lord has told him to preach and write down, he immediately gives instructions....BIND THIS UP AND SEAL IT TO MY DISCIPLES...VS 16

I.... “ THE FAITH OF THE MAN OF GOD ISAIAH”.... “I WILL WAIT” VS 17

There is evidence in the NT were men of God waited for this prophecy of the Messiah to come to pass...and when it did they believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ..Simon was one of them.

Luke 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name [was] Simeon; and the same man [was] just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

1st. That waiting is what the Lord has told his people to do in respect to all spiritual things...

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

2nd. In waiting on the Lord we keep his ways...

Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see [it].

3rd. There is salvation in waiting on the Lord...

Proverbs 20:22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; [but] wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

4th. In waiting on the Lord there is great blessing and strength..

Isaiah 30:18 And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD [is] a God of judgment: blessed [are] all they that wait for him.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.

In verse 18 is a reference to those disciples of Isaiah and what they were given for... signs and wonders in Israel ...

II... “THE WARNING HE GIVES CONCERNING THOSE WHO TRY TO TELL THEM WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS...VS 19-20

From the earliest days of the covenant people of God they were warned and forbidden to listen, or to go to any of these diviners...

Deuteronomy 18:14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so [to do].

Zechariah 10:2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because [there was] no shepherd.

It is clear what Isaiah is saying to these people...we should seek after our God he will tell us and lead us were and what he wants us to do...

Psalm 69:32 The humble shall see [this, and] be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

1. We are to do this whole heartedly...

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find [him], if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

2. We should do this continually..1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

3. Seeking God has to do with worship...

1 Chronicles 22:19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.

4th. Seeking God is reasonable because he right near us...

Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

III... “THE FALSITY OF THOSE WHO SPEAK TO THEM... VS 20 “ NO LIGHT”

This is the problem with so many christians today they think because somebody claims they are of God, and that he has a word from the Lord, that he is of the Lord. No different in Isaiah day, they felt the same way.

But he leaves clear instructions to them, if they speak not according tot his word...this has been the clear teaching of our forefathers, our rule for our faith and practice is the word of the Lord. Not new word, not new visions, not new dreams, but that which was bound. Psalm 119:89 LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

What the Holy Spirit was saying to David was, my word is established in my heaven...it will not change, it cannot change, it is the eternal word given by the Lord and published by his people. If these false prophets, dreamers, diviners, and anybody else does not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them...

If there is no light in them...then what? It is because their heart is darkened.

Matthew 6:22‑23 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great [is] that darkness!

I wish next week to considered the Lord willing the “Sufficiency of the Scriptures” in deeper detail.
