The Book of Isaiah
Scripture Reading- Isaiah 8-1-22
Subject- “ Inspiration of The Word Of God”
Intro- This without doubt is one of the perfect scriptures in the Bible itself that proves that what we have in the form of written scriptures was given from the Lord to certain holy men.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
The Bible declares of itself these words...Psalm 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great [was] the company of those that published [it].
What we have in this text is clear evidence that men heard God actually speak....Adam heard him in the garden after he sinned....
Genesis 3:8‑9 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where [art] thou?
As we have said many times, the Lord when he completed the word that he does not speak except by and through his word today, no new writings, no new revelations, no new dreams, no prophets to tell us what GOD said he has already said it...
He spoke to Noah...
He spoke to Abraham..
He spoke to Moses...
I.... “ WHAT HE WAS TO WRITE ON...VS 1 “ A GREAT ROLL”...VS 1-4
The Hebrew meaning of the word roll is said to be a flat shinny table quite large...this was so that there could be public reading of what God was going to have him to write....something that was durable enough to pass own to the next generations to come.
This prophecy consisted of him and his wife having a son and naming him...which means make speed, or very speedy...we see that in the details of this prophecy concerning the Samaria and Damasus..
II.... “THEN WE HAVE THE PROPHECY CONCERNING JUDAH UNFOLDED”...VS 5-10
Judah refused the waters of Shiloah ..which to reject so as to loathe the waters which was the slow moving water..typifying the wonderful mercy and grace of the Lord to his people....
Page # 2
The waters of Shiloah was said to have taken its very rise in the Temple and furnished the courts and the cisterns with an abundance of water....required for the numerous washings. therefore we see the symbolic meanings of slow moving water in contrast to a raging river overflowing its banks and moving everything in its site....
Just think of the many mercies of the Lord that flow ever so slowly almost unnoticed in our life as did the Shiloah’s quite running stream of water into the life of Judah...to abuse this is to invite the rivers of judgement upon us...
1st. The abuse of the mercies of the LORD is to bring upon us as it did them the retribution of God.....vs 7-8
We seen How God destroyed the ever living thing on the earth except Noah with the rains that did not cease for 40 days and nights, with the rushing mighty waters of that rain that carved out canyons and mountains etc. That killed everything in its sight that lived on the earth.
The land of Judah would be overflowed with the mighty Assyrian armies that would chock off the very life of this nations and its people....as Isaiah thought upon this tremendous prophecy he cried out with a voice of inspiration.....
2nd. The hope in the midst of this prophecy....O Immanuel” God is with us...vs 8-10
What hope this Prophet gives those believers in his message...it a hope they can count on, we have the Lord with us...This is what we said this morning we are not alone the LORD is with us also. In the midst of the trouble waters of this life those who faithfully believe the truth God will come their souls with the waters of Shiloah...
III.... THE ASSURANCE OF THE PROPHET TO HIS FAITHFUL FOLLOWERS..VS 11-18
1ST... Don’t follow their wicked ways...vs 11
Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked [is] as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
Proverbs 15:9 The way of the wicked [is] an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
Often we have complained concerning the prosperity of the wicked to forget what the Lord said about it....
Jeremiah 12-1-5
2nd... Sanctify God in your hearts...vs 13
Page # 3
Let the Lord be our fear not the Assyrians we have nothing to fear of man, but we do of the Lord...he will come and bring judgement upon our nations...Listen to what Peter tells the believers in his day...
1 Peter 3:14‑15 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy [are ye]: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
IV.... “ THE WONDERFUL PROPHECY OF CHRIST”...VS 14-18
The coming of the Messiah will be for two purposes...
1st... He will be a sanctuary...vs 14
A sanctuary was a Holy Place thus Christ will come and be the Holy Place the sanctuary and that he indeed is...
Hebrews 8:1‑2 Now of the things which we have spoken [this is] the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
2nd... He will also be for a stone of stumbling...and a rock of offense...vs 14-15
1 Peter 2:7‑8 Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Luke 20-17-19
Luke 2:34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this [child] is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
