Sunday Night

The Book of Isaiah

Subject- “ God’s Charges Against The Woman of Zion”

Text- Isaiah 3-16-26

Intro- It is highly unlikely that we can get a true picture of what war and sin does to a country. Those who may be here tonight that seen some combat in a foreign country can testify to this. Even in death and destruction women have been known to play the field of a harlot knowing the cravings of men who are away from home...it has been the death of a lot of men and women in war.

We have a picture of a culture that is left almost without men, and the women are becoming the ones that dominate and run things. God is pronouncing and rightly so judgement on the daughters of Zion in this text. This is not to say that only the women were sinful in this passage for men have been known to do the same thing....

I... “THE SIN OF PRIDE AS SEEN IN ITS DEFINITION MANIFEST WHAT IT REALLY IS....

Webster defines haughtiness as ... “PRIDE MINGLED WITH SOME DEGREE OF CONTEMPT FOR OTHERS....ARROGANT.

Pride is something that must be broken are it will continue to rob you of humility....Leviticus 26:19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

Pride is something that is associated with our goals in life....1 John 2:16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

We really have to watch it are it will take hold of our ever being and eventually will destroy us as the Lord was fixing to do to the daughters of Zion.

II.... “ THE SINFULNESS OF PRIDE IS ALSO SEEN IN ITS SOURCES WHERE IT COMES FROM....

Mark 7:21‑23 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Where do we see pride begin to take hold?

1st. Our forgetfulness of our dependence on the Lord...

1 Corinthians 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ [from another]? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive [it], why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received [it]?

The Lord wants his people not too have pride, and he wants us to realize from whence cometh our help it comes him who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

2 Corinthians 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

2nd. Our forgetfulness of the purposes for which God has so richly bestowed certain blessings upon us...

God gives us what he does in not so that we can consume it with our own lust and pride which so many people do, but that we serve him and others better. The sun shine not for itself but that it might give light for God’s creation...

The Lord Jesus said we cannot be his disciple if we are not willing to part with anything that would keep us from serving him...

Mark 10:20‑22 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

Christ is not saying to give all that you have but be willing to part, and this man was not willing to part because of his pride...maybe in this place tonight there are some not willing to part with something that is keeping you from being what you ought to be as a real christian, only you can answer that...

3rd... Our forgetfulness of our relationship to our fellow man....

Jesus the great example meet some with great compassion and moved to help them when he was called upon to do so..

Matthew 14-15-21

This is just one of many times the Lord helped those who needed help...

III.... “ THE SINFULNESS OF PRIDE IS A DIRECT OPPOSITE OF LOWLY SPIRIT OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST...

Matthew 11:28‑30 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.

One of the great examples of Christ humility is found one of the gospel when he washed the disciples feet...

John 13-1-17

A Sinful woman shows humility to Christ...

Luke 7:37‑38 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that [Jesus] sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind [him] weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe [them] with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed [them] with the ointment.
