Subject: “ The Doctrine of Angels”
Text: Heb 13:2
Intro: The understanding and the doctrine of Angels is a neglected truth, however in our day there is an increased interest in Angels because of the movies, land such like events. We will endeavor by the grace of God to show only what the Bible says about angels.
Angels: The meaning of the word is in Hebrew and Greek means a “messenger”. In the english language likewise means a messenger. Many times the word angel does not a spiritual being, it can and is used of pastors: Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
The first time you find the word angel mentioned in the Bible is when Hagar the made of Sarah was driven from her because Sarah had treated her bad over the child she bare for Abraham. Genesis 16:6-7 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid [is] in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face. 7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
The occurrence of the word “Angel” in the bible is one hundred and ninety two times. In the plural it is found ninety one times. So you can see that the subject mentioned often in the Bible.
In our text:
I... “ THE DUTY OF HOSPITALITY DECLARED” VS 2
This naturally follows love of the brethren. One of the duties of a minister is to be hospitable. Paul said this in his letter to Timothy concerning the qualification of bishops.. 1 Tim 3:2 “given to hospitality”
Peter said: 1 Peter 4:9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. This means that you treat those who guest among you with kindness and charity. That is you serve them who come into your homes.
Romans 16:23 Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother.

II... “ THE REASON STATED FOR HOSPITALITY”... VS 2
The entertaining of angels possible. Which brings us to the main of the message tonight and possible several messages. Can angels still take on human form? Do they visit us? Are they among us right now? These are question that need answers and also that should be answered.
Angels are not born, they are created, they are sexless beings, there are no baby angels, men angels, women angels. They cannot die they are eternal beings for the service of GOD.
1st. They are created for the purpose of guarding the property of God wether it is in heaven or on earth.
When Adam and Eve were expelled out of the garden of Eden, it is said that he places and order of Angels to keep man out of the garden...Genesis 3:23-24 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
When Jesus was speaking to his disciples concerning children he spoke of them as having a angel watching and guarding them..Matthew 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
There is an interesting reading about these guarden angels:
Ezekiel 10:1-6 Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. 2 And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, [even] under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter [them] over the city. And he went in in my sight. 3 Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. 4 Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, [and stood] over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD'S glory. 5 And the sound of the cherubims' wings was heard [even] to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh. 6 And it came to pass, [that] when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels.

2nd. That some angels were sent to bear messages from the Lord to certain people and certain cities:
a. The birth of Issac was annonced by angels: Genesis 18:9 And they said unto him, Where [is] Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. Genesis 18:10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard [it] in the tent door, which [was] behind him.
b. Hagar the made was told by angels a great nation shall come out ofthee:Genesis 21:17-18 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he [is]. 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
C. A death message to Elijah concerning a King who inquired of an idol god.
2 Kings 1:3-4 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, [Is it] not because [there is] not a God in Israel, [that] ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? 4 Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.
3rd. The work of Angels in the New Testament:
It is so fitting the he who is LORD OF ANGELS would have them attend him to earthly journey. We see this through out the life of Christ in all it’s stages. Let us look at them.
(1.) They annouce his birth:
Luke 1:26-35 Turn and read it. They also annouced the actual birth of Christ to the shepherds: Luke 2:8-11 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
The joy of their message tot he shephers:
Page # 4
a. That their annoucement would be for all people:
b. That their annoucement would be of the mission of Christ.
He would be born in the city of David, and that he would be a Sviour. What an annoucement that brought about joy and fear in their hearts. This was a hevenly annoucement to a earthly people. God was going to visit and redeem a people for his name sake.
(2.) They attending him after his exhausting fast and battle with Satan: Matthew 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
(3.) They comforted him after his agony in the garden..Luke 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
(4.) At his death on the cross: Matthew 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
A legion consisted of many angels, some have said because of the Roman Legion of Soliders which consisted 6200 foot soliders at time that this would be a fare assumption of 75,000 angels was around the cross that day when Jesus died.
What we cannot see, it the apparent presence of angels in this building tonight and who desire to look into truth. 1 Peter 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
(5.) The presence and the assistance of angels in the resurrection of Christ from the dead:
Matthew 28:2-7 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead [men]. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. Matthew 6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
What a great display of power:

1st. Where this angel came from: Matt 28:2 “ From heaven”
2nd. What he did: Matt 28:2 “rolled back the stone”
3rd. His discrirption: Matt 28:3 “ Like lightening and like snow”
4th. His message: Matt 28:5-6 “ He is not here he is risen”
5th. His instruction: Matt 28:7 “ Go quickly and tell his disciples”
(6.) They were present at his acension:
Acts 1:10-11 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
(7.) They shall attend him at his second coming:
Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
We shall continue this next week
