Sunday Night

Subject: “ The Life of Moses A Life of Faith”

Text: Hebrews 11: 24-29

Intro: Housed in these few verses is the majority of a great man of God’s life. Moses life can be broken up into three phases. The first 40 years in the hands of the Pharaoh, the second 40 on the back side of a desert, and the last 40 shepherding God’s people.

There is no question that God had his hand on this man from day one as we see in our text. Our life no doubt should likewise be looked at as a life of faith for that is what it is.

I... “ IT TAKES FAITH TO BE A PARENT”..VS 23

There was a subtle attach to kill Moses: Exodus 1:22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

Parenting in our day or any day is a task. It so laden with great responsibility that unless you have been there you are clueless as to what I am talking about.

I remember When Scottie was born I was 23 and Virginia was 18 and I remember saying can we take care of this little boy, and many other such fear went through my mind.

1st. Parenting is a gift of God:

All mothers are born with the ability to take care of their own. Some will nourish this gift and pray for the ability to raise the children, and some will not.

2nd. Parenting is no doubt a life of faith just as Moses’s parents did what they did by faith. Psalm 127:3 Lo, children [are] an heritage of the LORD: [and] the fruit of the womb [is his] reward. Psalm 127:4‑5 As arrows [are] in the hand of a mighty man; so [are] children of the youth. 5 Happy [is] the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

3rd  Parenting requires both parents and proper treatment tot he child what is best for them.

Ephesians 6:1‑4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

II.. THE FAITH IT TOOK TO STAND: VS 24-29

I remind you that the faith that Moses had he did not inherit it, he did not conger it up of himself, his parents did not give it to him, the Lord did. If we have faith it is because God gave it.

1st. His faith caused him not to be identified with the world..vs 24

In his heart was a real assurance that I am not were I ought to be, I must move on, I must get out of this life style I am in. Sometimes doing right means making hard decision..

Note the word “refused” Moses was leaving the wealth of Egypt, he was leaving his friends, his power, his comforts of life and he did it. Never think you do wrong when you do that which is right.

A willingness to hear instruction aids one in proper decisions in life .. Solomon said: Proverbs 8:33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

1 John 2:15‑17 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Moses did the will of God by faith.

2nd. His faith cause him to understand what it would cost him..vs 25

Suffer affliction: 1 Peter 4:15‑16 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. 16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

God’s people have a promise from the Lord: 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

Note something else in this verse: “ Than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season” Sin is pleasurable, but not for long. The bible says in the book of James 1:14‑15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Sin is the great deception in our world, men commit it thinking that there is no payment for it. There is no suffering from it. But the bible is clear as to what will happen..

Galatians 6:7‑8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

3RD. His faith filled his heart with the great knowledge of Christ riches: vs 26

Moses knew Christ, yes he did. It was the Lord Jesus Christ who gave Moses his faith to deliver the children of Israel. The Christain life no doubt is filled with treasurer, Christ himself is the greatest of all treasure.

James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Paul said: 2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Christ in us is the great hope of Glory. If you know Christ tonight you are rich beyond measure.

Moses knew and we should know and believe that our Lord will reward us one day. 1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

4th. His faith caused him to endure whatever came his way..vs 27

Note he had no fear of the King neither did his parents.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Paul said: Acts 27:23‑24 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Reason he feared not... He saw the Lord. Moses had a personal relationship with his God, and you and I should do no less. We too see him who is invisible just like other saints.

See tonight by faith the wonder of the Lord, the beauty of Christ, the provision of Christ and my friend you will endure every heartache, every burden, every valley, every mountain top. Oh that we could see him tonight.

The Lord poses the great question:

Ezekiel 22:14 Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken [it], and will do [it].

When God calls upon us to walk through the difficulties  of this life will you endure as Moses did. A few times he let his flesh take hold and cost him the promise land.

5th. His faith caused him to stand the test in two major area’s of his life: vs 28-29

1st. The passover...vs 28

This was the night in which God sent the death angel through out the land of Egypt and Moses and his people under his guidance believed God what he said and was delivered from God’s wrath.

Exodus 11:5‑7 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that [is] behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. 6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more. 7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

The blood was a token on the post so that the angel of death would pass over them. This is why it is called the passover. We too have the blood on the door post of our hearts tonight and when God sees the blood he passes over us.

A. Made nigh by the blood... Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

B. Purged by his blood... Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

2nd. The red sea experience..vs 29

The people of God doubted but the leader of the people did not. Sometimes you have to follow by faith what I say and see the deliverance of the Lord, just like these Iseralities did.

Exdous 14: 12-31
