Subject - " Counting On The Faithful of The Lord"
Text- Psalms 36-1-12

Intro- Before I address you this morning with this subject, I would like to make a few observations from our text....In these verses is a contrast of what unrighteous men and righteous men think about the eternal and everlasting Lord.

1st. The wicked.. vs 1-4 a. No fear of the Lord before them. It is clear to me that the commandment in the bible is to fear God keep his commandments for this the whole duty of man. And yet he has no intention of doing so. The depraved heart will not allow him to respect his creator.b. He flattereth his own self.. vs 2 This speaks of the continual hatred of sinners for the Lord and intent own satisfying his own desires. Psalm 12:2-3 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: [with] flattering lips [and] with a double heart do they speak. 3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, [and] the tongue that speaketh proud things: c. He is a deceitful man.. vs 3 Once again it goes back to the root problem of all men and that is his heart... Psalm 35:20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against [them that are] quiet in the land. Satan and his ministers are dead set at destroying whom they can and it is clear from the Bible they exist... 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. d. He loves sin.. vs 4 He lives it, he desires it, he does not blush at it, he works at it, he devises it on his bed.. Job 15:16 How much more abominable and filthy [is] man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

2. The righteous.. vs 5-1

a. He honors the Lord.. vs 5

1st. He speaks of Gods Mercy and faithfulness...vs 5

2nd. He speaks of Gods righteousness.. vs 6

3rd. He speaks of Gods judgments ..  vs 6

4th. He speaks of Gods loving kindness..  Vs 7

b. What righteous men do.

1st. They put their trust under the shadow of his wings.. vs 7

This speaks of a refuge, a place of safety, it is were we need to come to. Jesus used this in an illustration on one occasion...listen to what he said to the Jews. Matthew 23:37-38 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

2nd. They shall be satisfied...vs 8

Psalm 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

It is said of those who are chosen by the Lord...Psalm 65:4 Blessed [is the man whom] thou choosest, and causest to approach [unto thee, that] he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, [even] of thy holy temple.

3rd. They have been made to drink of the fountain of life and see light...vs 9 Christ my friends is the fountain of which this text speaks of, and he is the light that causes us to be able to see light Zechariah 13:1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

With all that in mind, when we see the wicked taking his delights out, when we see a changing world not for the good but for the bad, when we see sin as a plague upon our beloved nation and we see sinners continually disobeying the Lord can we count on the faithfulness of the Lord, and my answer is YES we can. Psalm 119:90 Thy faithfulness [is] unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

I.... "THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE LORD IS SEEN IN HIS FULFILLING HIS PROMISES.

God had promised to deliver the children of Israel out of bondage and after 430 years he did it. I am sure that some doubted it, and some did not believe it, but some embraced it and passed it on to the next generations. When Steven preached... Acts 7:17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, Acts 7:34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. Men may forget but God does not and cannot...Isaiah 49:15-16 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. 16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of [my] hands; thy walls [are] continually before me.

II... " THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE LORD IS ALSO SEEN IN HIS PROMISES TAKING EFFECT IN TIMES OF GREATEST DIFFICULTIES, AND IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS.

Abraham and Sarah...

Genesis 18:13-14 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Then later when the Lord tells him to sacrifice Isaac Hebrews 11:17-19 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten [son], 18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: 19 Accounting that God [was] able to raise [him] up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

III... " THE FAITHFULNESS OF THE LORD IS SEEN ALSO IN A TIME WHEN HIS PEOPLE LOOSE HOPE AND EXPECTATION...

Ezekiel and the valley of dry bones... Ezekiel 37:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

Verse 7-14

2 Timothy 2:13 If we believe not, [yet] he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Conclude this morning with the faithful testimony given by men through out Biblical history...

Joshua said...

Joshua 23:14 And, behold, this day I [am] going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, [and] not one thing hath failed thereof.

Daniel said..

Daniel 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

David said..

Psalm 146:5-6 Happy [is he] that [hath] the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope [is] in the LORD his God: 6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein [is]: which keepeth truth for ever:
