Sunday Morning
Series- " Can We Count On The Lord"
Subject- " Why Is God Faithful"

Psalms 89-1-8 vs 24 and vs 33 Intro- Last Sunday we addressed the question, can we count on the LORD'S faithfulness. Today we want to look at from another stand point. Why is God Faithful? In this chapter we the promise that God is making to David concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, it speaks of many things concerning Christ..

Vs 4- " The Seed of David was to be forever"

Vs 16 " The one in whom sinners will rejoice and have righteousness"

Vs 18 " The Holy of Israel is the true King"

Vs 19 " The one in whom help is laid upon"

vs 20-29 " Speaks of what the Father does for his son our savior the Lord Jesus"

Also in this chapter David speaks of the faithfulness of God six times.

Vs 1 " He would make known the faithfulness of the Lord to all generations.

Vs 2 " That Gods faithfulness is established in the heavens.

Vs 5 " That Gods faithfulness is in the congregation of the saints.

Vs 8 " That Gods faithfulness is about the Lord.

Vs 24 " That God claims his faithfulness.

Vs 33 "That God will not allow his faithfulness to fail.

So that brings us to the question that we wish to anser this morning...WHY IS GOD FAITHFUL?

I.... " GOD IS FAITHFUL BECAUSE OF HIS HOLY NATURE"

1. The Lord is said to be seated in his throne of holiness.. Psalm 47:8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness. This means that he is surrounded by it. It was that very holiness that caused the Angelic beings to burst forth with praise concerning the irrevocable holiness....Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God almighty. If there is no defect in his being there can be none in his workings, if his nature is pure holiness then all his ways must be perfect.Numbers 23:19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

II... " THE SECOND REASON THAT GOD IS FAITHFUL IS BECAUSE OF HIS SUFFICIENT POWER TO PERFORM ALL THAT HE HATH DECREED TO DO".

Isaiah 43:13 Yea, before the day [was] I [am] he; and [there is] none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it? Here the Lord refers to himself as the self- existing one, that cannot be stayed by any, that none can interrupt him. Psalm 135:6 Whatsoever the LORD pleased, [that] did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

1.. The creating power of God....Isaiah 42:5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: This is the Lord Jesus Christ...Listen to what Paul said...

Colossians 1:16-19 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased [the Father] that in him should all fulness dwell;

2. The renewing and restoring power of the Lord....

2 Corinthians 4:15-16 For all things [are] for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward [man] is renewed day by day.

3. The regenerating power of God...

John 1:11-13 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; So we can count on God to be faithful because he is powerful enough to be faithful and nothing will stop him from being faithful to his creation and to all his people.

III... " GOD IS FAITHFUL BECAUSE OF THE HONOR OF HIS HOLY NAME"

1. The Lords people are aware of the great benefit of the Lords name.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD [is] a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

2. The name of the Lord that by which sinners are saved...Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

God is faithful because of the honor of his name, he will always be faithful and it shown through out the Bible in honor of his great name. When Moses received the tables of stone from the Lord note what was said...Exodus 34:5-7 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth [generation].

IV... " THE LORD IS FAITHFUL LAST OF ALL BECAUSE OF HIS UNCHANGEABLE NATURE...

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

1. He is unchangeable therefore he never repents...Numbers 23:19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

2. He is unchangeable therefore he never starts over, looks back, changes his mind in the slightest of his dealings...Malachi 3:6 For I [am] the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

3. He is unchangeable therefore he never gives up on us..

Psalm 78:38-39 But he, [being] full of compassion, forgave [their] iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39 For he remembered that they [were but] flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

4. His unchangeable therefore we can never be lost after we are saved...

John 10:28-30 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand.29 My Father, which gave [them] me, is greater than all; and no [man] is able to pluck [them] out of my Father's hand. 30 I and [my] Father are one.
