Sunday Morning

Series: “Christ The Sum & Substance of the Word of God”

Sermon # 85

Subject: “ Salvation Which Is In Christ Jesus”

Text: 2 Tim 3:15

Intro: It is such a blessing to find Christ everywhere in the Bible. It is about him, “ that is it is about his pre existence, his preparation the seed of the woman, his birth born of a virgin, his life guided by his father, his baptism, his calling of his apostles, his trail and death, his burial and his resurrection. it is of him, all scripture is given by the Lord. It is to him. That is it about bring honor and glory to him.

After his resurrection he told his disciples: Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. All that was written is what we are investigating in these morning services. I hope to compile a book of these sermons before I die....

I... “THE SOURCE OF HIS KNOWLEDGE ; THE WORD OF GOD”..vs 15

The involvement of a jewish child to God’s word begins early in their life. De 11:19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

A well known Rabbi said of this passage the following words "When the boy begins to talk, his father ought to converse with him in the sacred language, and to teach him the law; if he does not do that he seems to bury him."

2Ti 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

That word “unfeigned faith” means it was not a hypocritical faith, lt was real Paul saw it and it was he commended him for. Not that Timothy had of his own because God gave to him, but he saw it in his readiness to serve.

II... “ THE SECURITY OF HIS BLESSINGS”..VS 15 “ THE HOLINESS OF THE WORD”

The word holiness means that which is pure and set aside because the LORD gave it. In fact the Bible says of itself...Ps 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

We see from this verse...

(1.) It is a gracious gift.. “ The Lord gave it”

(2.) It is a gift with a purpose... “ published it”

The blessings of the word of God are for to many to cover in a sermon or a series of sermons...so let me make just say what the text says..Make thee wise. Wisdom is another gift of God that comes from him through the word of God..

Ps 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Pr 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. If you have a Bible in your home, use it with your children, don’t let their hearts be filled with the wisdom of this world and then wonder where you went wrong.

III... “ THE SALVATION”..VS 15

Here we have a clear reference to the fact that the Old Testament if studied correctly will lead one in the path of wisdom and that wisdom is knowing that Jesus Christ is salvation.

It is also a statement

(1.) The all inclusiveness of this statement... “ In Christ Jesus”

Christ is our foundation in salvation all other ground is sinking sand:1 Cor 3-11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ...

Christ is our door in salvation all other ways is open by the devil: John 10-9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Christ is our covering all other coverings will lead to exposure: Php 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Christ is our life without him we are dead: Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. We are dead to him, dead to his word, dead to his life, dead to everything but sins....we are alive in sins...

Christ is our path all other paths lead to destruction:

a. The wrong path: Ge 49:17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

b. The right path: Ps 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

David prayed: Ps 119:35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

C. It is a shining path: Pr 4:18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day...

(2.) Why is it all in Christ?

This is the question that most have never answered, never pondered, never took it at face value. They are always wanting to add to it...take away from it... but has not neither will it change the truth of it...

1st. It is all in Christ because of his ability to save:

Jas 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

The ones that he saves, he ever lives to mediate for them, to have them in his heart and in his mind, to be ready to defend them, no one else can do this but the LORD JESUS CHRIST...

2nd. It is all in Christ because of his ability to keep us:

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

a. He will keep us even though we sin: Ps 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. Oh yes you may fall down, you may even leave, but you will come back because the LORD will draw you back with the means he has chosen to use..

b. He will keep us even though we disobey him: Pr 3:12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

c. He will keep us because he cannot fail: Jos 1:5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

1Ch 28:20 And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

(3.) It is all in Christ because he is the one that won the victory at Calvary:

The cry of Calvary: Joh 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Ver 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

The cry of heaven: Rev 5-4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath

prevailed to open the book and loose the seals there of.

The word “prevailed” means to carry off the victory by being victorious... what a great day when Jesus Christ walked off of calvary with the victory... and because he was victorious we are also...

(4.) It is all in Christ because he is the only worthy to save us:

There is no worth nor worthiness in us: Peter said: Lu 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. The centurion said: Lu 7:6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:

(5.) It is all in Christ because he has the authority save us:

Two things are meant by this:

a. He has the keys: Re 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death

b. He has them exclusively: Re 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

It is an unfruitful preacher, evangelist, missionary, who tries to save sinners, who thinks that sinners destiny is in our hands, that GOD holds us responsible for the salvation of souls... it is not in our hands... It is not in the sinners hands, it is in the hands of JESUS CHRIST .....

Oh yes he gave the commission to preach, baptize those that are saved, and then teach them. But it still goes back to him... All authority is given him in heaven and on earth.. Can you imagine that... this is exactly what is meant in Psalm 2 the heathen rages and the kings of the earth set themselves up against Christ but it didn’t work and it want work now...

Psa 2-8 Ask of me and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession... A portion of that Psalm says “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and ye perish form the way when his wrath is kindle but a little.

Rev 6-14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

I must close...

Can you trust him this morning? If you can please do so. Now right now, right where you sit, and speak to me after the services..
