Series: “Christ Is The Sum & The Substance of The Bible”

Sermon # 75

Subject: “ The Nature of The King”

Text: I Tim 1:17

Intro: It is not my intention in this message to prove to you that Christ is the King, that is clearly stated. This chapter is about Christ, so it would be useless to think that Paul had someone else in mind...

My I verify that with you:

Paul is the Apostle of Jesus Christ: vs 1

Christ is the hope of the believer: vs 1

Christ is our Lord..vs 2

Christ places men into the ministry..vs 12

Christ came into the world to save sinners: vs 15

Christ manifest longsuffering in Paul..vs 16

So it would be and it is nature thing to call Christ King, because his mission was not conquers worlds, but sinners. To make them willing in the day of his power. To cause them to be subject to him. The great King and prophet David said in his Psalm...

Ps 24:7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Ps 24:9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Ps 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

In another chapter of this book, 1Ti 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Our text presents a number of things about the King in whom we serve, love, and try to do his will... Paul says to Timothy... Unto the King, The word “unto” means toward the King hail to him all that is due his holy name and being and throne.

I... “THAT HE IS ETERNAL”

Whatever is said about God in the Old Testament reigns naturally true in the new. It is so hard at times for us to see Christ as the eternal God but he is. De 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

Since God is eternal he has no beginning nor ending. He is, and Paul says he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

(1.) That Abraham worship the everlasting God: Ge 21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

(2.) Isaiah proclaimed him: Isa 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

(3.) Paul declares his word: Ro 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

(4.) David announces his eternality : Ps 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

II.. “HE IS IMMORTAL”

This has to do with the fact that he is imperishable.. We cannot realize this because we are perishable. We live in a world that is perishing. Our bodies are constantly decaying even though one may be young..middle age, older, elderly.

(1.) He never grows weary:

When the Bible says he rested, what does it mean? Ge 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. The word “rested” does not mean that he was tired or weary, but it means he ceased from his work, one time this word is translated “celebrate”.Le 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

When the prophet Isaiah says of God that he is weary Isa 1:14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

The word “weary” comes from a word that means he is offended at their worship. In Isa 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. The word “weary” hear comes from another word that means he is not tired, does not become tired.

(2.) He cannot decay or die:

Psa 103-14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. 17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

In order for him to have everlasting mercy, he must be everlasting and think we have already established that.

(3.) He has an inexhaustible reservoir:

Isa 40-29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(4.) He is entirely passed finding out:

Job 11-7 ¶ Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? 8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? 9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

A. The great question: vs 7

b. The great explanation: vs 8-9

Paul said:

Ro 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

III... “ HE IS INVISIBLE”

God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth so says Jesus Christ. Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. This is why Jesus Christ told Thomas and Philip that he that hath seen me hath seen the Father. Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

The word as it refers to Christ is the very moral excellence of the God, because he is GOD. It is not like us, where they see Christ in us at times, and that very weak, but he is the visibility of the GODHEAD bodily.

Heb 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

We see him in Christ, we see him in the Bible, we see him in our world as he govern and changes all things to suit his will of purpose... Faith lays hold of such an God, who cannot be seen.

Once again Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

IV. “HE IS THE ONLY WISE GOD”

Believe me this morning when I say, that there are plenty of gods in this world, plenty in the minds of people. Temples are erected to them, homage is paid to them, sacrifice is made to them, worship is given them, but there is one true GOD and his name is JESUS CHRIST.

Jude 1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Here the testimony of God himself:

Isa 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. Isa 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

De 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: The Lord Jesus quoted this very verse in Mr 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

The word “Lord” is Jehovah and the word “GOD” is elohiym el-o-heem' which is the plural name of God. Here is the word that causes us to believe in the Triune God. The Trinity if you please...

No I don’t have all the answers about this, but I believe it. It soothes my soul, it assures me, that the eternal everlasting God is JESUS CHRIST.....who made himself known in times past in various manifestation, but now makes himself known through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

V.. “ ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS DUE HIM” VS 17

On that this morning we might with our feeble worship bring honor to our Lord, sing his greatness, proclaim it, preach it, praise him, from whom all blessings flow.... No one on earth, under the earth, in heaven, deserves the praise our GOD LORD eternal KING does..

King David proclaims this:

1 Chron 29-10 ¶ Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. 11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

Why?

(1.) Because he hath created all things:

Rev 4-11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

(2.) Because he hath prevailed:

Rev 5- 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

(3.) Because he hath redeemed us:

Re 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

(4.) Because he hath the only worthy name that is due this glory and honour:

Php 2-9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
