Sermon # 63

Subject: “ Christ Is All & In All”

Text: Col 3: 8-11

Intro: It is no my intention in this message to deal with but one verse and that is verse 11. There is so much to be said for Christ being the sum and the Substance in this one verse. But affirm to you what I mean by this...I think of several verses that establish that Jesus Christ is it, he is all and in all...

Revelation 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Revelation 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

The opening and the closing of the book of Revelation establish this very clearly to me, listen to what JESUS SAID: Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

When Moses was called of the Lord to lead his people out of Egypt he ask the LORD this question: Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. I will basically have two main thoughts this morning:

I... “CHRIST IS ALL”

Christ is all in Divine grace that we need:

(1.) He is all the grace that we need because he is full of grace: John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

In the great deluge of the flood, it is said that in the midst of sin and depravity that Noah and Noah alone found God to be sufficient for him: Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

It was said in the prophetic Psalm of David concerning Jesus Christ: Psalms 45:2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

John 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

We are saved by grace, kept by grace, work by grace, live by grace, we need not religion, we need not the schism of men, we the pure unadulterated grace of the LORD JESUS CHRIST or we perish in our sins..

(2.) Christ is all the redemption that we need: Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

Legal redemption Christ died, eternal redemption, Christ died, real redemption Christ died, heavenly redemption, Christ died... In the song of Revelation it is said that Christ is the worthy lamb because:

Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

(3.) Christ is all the justification we need:

The ancient Job ask a question thousands of years ago: Job 25:4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? People this is a serious question, it deals with our eternal destination, if you seek to be justified by works then Paul ye are fallen from grace, if ye seek to be justified by baptism, then you need to look further...there is no justification outside the legal work of Christ on our behalf at calvary...

Acts 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

To come into the presence of the LORD one need not present anything but the blood of Christ, in redemption satisfied, pacified, the eternal and everlasting GOD OF GLORY and now we can come boldly to the thrown of Grace that we may obtain mercy and find help in the time of need. Rom- 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Roman 8-33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

(4th). Christ is all that you need to be saved from your sins today:

Through out the Bible over and over it is said that we need no other, Christ himself said, no man can come to the Father but by him... Peter ask that question to Christ himself: John 6-68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved...

Do you need Christ this morning, then come to him, fall before him for mercy and grace and believe on him to the saving of your soul. Come where you set, then when we close publically confess Christ as LORD..

(5th) The scriptures is a revelation that Christ is all:

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

In Adam he is seen as Adam was the representative of his race his people, In Noah he is seen as the Ark and the restorer, in Isaac he is seen as the sacrificial lamb of God, In Joseph as humbled and exalted, and the saviour of his Fathers house. In Joshua as the captain and commander of his people leading them into the promises of the LORD. He is the one...

Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Jesus said that Abraham saw his day and rejoiced to see it...

(6th.) Christ is all God and All man:

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

What a marvelous blessing, the eternal everlasting GOD becomes a full man, while at the same time remained GOD. He was GOD in the womb, God as a boy, God as a man, GOD on the Cross... he alone satisfied himself..

John said it better than I can... John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

II.. “CHRIST IS IN ALL”

I wish to expand this into our thinking, that he is all things, all things that can be all things that are, I do not mean that he dwells in all things as he does in all his people, but I mean he is the ruler of all things...

(1st.) Christ is in all things pertaining to his creation:

Col 1-16 For by him were all things created that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities, or powers all things were created by him and for him.

(2nd.) Christ is in all things pertaining to the existence of them and the continuation of them.

Col 1-17 “ And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.. The word consist means to set it in the same place, and blend it together.. Have you ever thought if the Sun moved closer to the earth just the slightest we would burn up, if it moved away from us just the slightest we would freeze to death...

Again:

Heb 1-3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

(3rd.) Christ is in all things pertaining to the governing of them: Heb 2-8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

Here we have the sovereign control of Christ over all things. Nothing is done without his all seeing providential hand over all nations, all kings, all governments, all events good or bad, all means all in this sense...

(4th.) Christ is all things so that he could obtain salvation for us:

Heb 2-10 ¶ For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

(5th.) Christ is in all things to the Church:

Eph 1-19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
