Sunday Morning

Series: Christ The Sum & Substance of The Bible”

Sermon # 135

Subject: “THE UTTER CONTEMPT FOR CHRIST”

TEXT: JUDE 1:4

Intro: To deny someone is disallow them, to speak evil of them, to disregard with contempt for. This was no mere denial of Christ saviour, it was a denial of who he was. The Only LORD GOD. John has dealt with this in a previous place when he said these words, 1Jo 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. The nations of Jews and religious leaders denied him as GOD..

Joh 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then Peter said of them in his writings in Acts the following:

Ac 3:13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.Ac 3:14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;

Certain truths should be noted as to why they did this:

          (1.) They crept in:

Here we a classic display of hypocrisy and pretenders of the faith that was once delivered to the saints. They were soul leaders in the rebellion that caused Jude to cry out in verse 3 “ Content for the faith” earnestly do it.

(2.) They were ordained to this:

          (3.) Their work:

They had two basic works, turning the LORD’S grace in lasciviousness and then denying the LORD.

The biblical illustrator says there are many ways to deny Christ as GOD: Deny his power, and you deny him, deny his justice and you deny him, deny his providence and you deny him, deny his work and you deny him, deny his sovereignty and you deny him. How many people are guilty of denying him.

In our text there are two important and profund things that they denied openly and pubically about the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

I.. HIS DEITY..

(1.) TO DENY HIS DEITY IS TO DENY SCRIPTURE:

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

In the announcement of his birth, it is said that the God of the heavens and the earth has come to dwell among men .Matt 1- 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

John said: 1-1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Paul confirms it also: 1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

(2.) TO DENY HIS DEITY IS TO DENY HIS ABILITIES TO SAVE:

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

If he is not God, then he is not saviour, Luke 2-11for unto you is born this day in the city of David a saviour which is Christ the LORD. One cannot save oneself, or anyone else, it takes the almighty GOD to do it and JESUS CHRIST Is almighty GOD...

Jesus Christ is a willing, a holy, a powerful, a sufficient saviour of his people. He is the worthy saviour, he is the only saviour, he is the acceptable saviour, he is the loving saviour, he is the crucified, buried, and the risen saviour, he is the coming saviour.

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? BELIEVE WITH ALL YOUR HEART MIND AND SOULS, AND YOU WILL BE SAVED...

II.. DENIED HIS LORDSHIP:

The bible fact that he is Lord is spoken and declared 82 times in the NT. The word Lord means master, and master gives the idea of ownership, it is like a slave and his master he owns him absolutely until he frees him.

The Lordship of Christ is absolute to the saving of sinners, he must be able to subdue them, to overcome them, so that sinners bow to him and his rulership over them. He reigns over us as LORD...

Ac 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 10-36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

(1.) As Lord he abides as king over all in administrating his government::

In the prophetic psalm that is quoted many time in the NT it is said of the Father to the Son...Ps 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

This is quoted three times in the NT. Each time referring to his ability as sovereign Lord over all. This is why

Mt 22:44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

Lu 20:42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Peter on the day of Pentecost: Ac 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

(2.) As Lord he was appointed to this position by the Father:

Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

          Php 2-8-11

What we clearly see in this passage:

          a. Humiliation of Christ: vs 8

          b. Honor of Christ: vs 9-11

          Col 1.16-18

What we see clearly in this passage:

          a. The power of Christ: vs 16

          b. The pre-existence of Christ: vs 17

          c. The preeminence of Christ. Vs 18

Conclusion:

Men have denied him since his birth, death, resurrection, but one day and it may not be long, that JESUS CHRIST will show the world:

1 Tim 6- 13 ¶ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen
