Sunday Morning

Series: Christ The Sum & Substance of The Bible

Subject: “The Many Aspects of Christ”

Text: I Peter 1:1-5

Sermon # 109

Intro: The word aspect means to be able to look at something more than one way, it has do with viewing it from various ways in which something is used. This is so in Christ, we want by the grace of GOD to look at the many ways it is used by those who knew him best. In this case it is the Apostle Peter.

We know from our studies into the life and ministry of Christ that Jesus chose Peter,

and the rest of the Apostles. But there was something different in this relationship of Peter and his Lord. He was one of those that accompanied him on the Mountain of transfiguration, he was present with him on many occasion of healings, and of raising the dead.

But in this text we see how Peter views Christ in different aspects of his person..

I... THE ONE WHO SENDS..VS 2

This is taken from the “APOSTLE” which means one sent, and “OF” which means out from. So Peter was sent out from Christ like the rest of the Apostles. John 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

(1.) He was sent to preach the gospel of Christ:

We can see this so clear on Pentecost. Peter stands up and proclaims loud and clear with apology these famous and inspired word. Acts 2-14 ¶ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

a. He was the risen and ascended Christ: Acts 2- 31-35

b. He was the Lord of all: Acts 2:36-37

c. He was the object of repentance: Acts 2:38-39

II.. THE ONE WHO ELECTS: VS 2

We know how people feel about this church and her doctrine but it is the doctrine of the Bible. It is the doctrine of Baptist, it is the doctrine of Christ, it is the doctrine of the Apostles and the early church.

(1.) It is an election based on foreknowledge: vs 2

The key to understanding this is found also in the definition of the word “FOREKNOWLEDGE” the greek says “forethought and pre-arrangement”. It is a little different than the word “ FOREKNEW” which means to know before hand.

This is not an election unto service, but rather an explanation of their election that was involved in their salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ told the Apostle that they had not chosen him, but he chose them.

(2.) The realization of their election: vs 2

It was a work of the Holy Spirit in them, that cause their obedience. Those who obey the gospel are the ones that have been elected to be saved. He convicts us, he convinces us, he reproves us, he quickens us....he draws us to JESUS CHRIST.

(3.) The guarantee of our election: vs 2

It is clear, the blood of Christ. This is the same as saying the death of Christ, this is also saying that we are clean. Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

III.. THE ONE WHO SEALS OUR SALVATION: VS 3

(1.) That it was his mercy that moved him toward us: “Abundant mercy”

The supply of the mercy of the LORD never runs out. Solomon said; Lam 3-“21 ¶ This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not .23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

(2.) That he raises us up from spirit death so as to enjoy him:

2 Thess 2-13 ¶ But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(3.) That he raises us up because he raised him up: vs 3

three things about the resurrection of Christ that I feel is very important.

A. He predicts it: Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

B. He claims to be the resurrection: Joh 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

c. He performs it: Ro 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

IV... HE IS THE ONE WHO PROMISES US A BLESSED FUTURE: VS 4-7

There is no reason to doubt, we are to be like Abraham who staggered not at the promises of the Lord but was strong in faith. His word is sure, it is steadfast, it is without error, so bank on it, it will happen.

Five things about this wonderful promise he make in Christ for us.

(1.) It is incorruptible: vs 4

Listen to what this word means saints, it is not perishable, not liable to corrupt. This is the new body that we will have in him at his coming.

(2.) Undefiled: vs 4

Free from that by which the nature of a thing is deformed and debased, or its force and vigour impaired. Listen to John in I John 3-1-2

(3.) Fades not away:

Look at today, are we not fading? Yes big time for some of us. But there is day in which we shall not fade, nor decay, nor corrupt...

(4.) Reserved for us: vs 4

Col 1-5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

(5.) The assurance of it all: vs 5

This word “KEPT” MEANS To guard one like a miltary guard does a city, to keep out invaders, the enemies etc.
